When I was a regular out of MDW back in 2013 or so there were times I was stuck waiting for Ubers for over 90 minutes because there weren’t enough. Also, if the roads were shitty, drivers didn’t go there. I will say one snowy return ride from MDW to Logan Square took a very scenic route almost due north. Saw parts of Chicago I never thought I would.
Looking at flights from Vancouver to Phoenix, which is a 3 hour flight. Plane options are CRJ-900 and 737-MAX8. Feels like a lose-lose situation but would appreciate input.
Also, airplane walk up song has to be B.O.B.‘s Airplanes, right?
I’m not going to try to sell you on the MAX8s being great aircraft. The issues are documented and well reported on. I will say anecdotally that I have flown on them since the big return to service and most of the issues have been resolved. Their dispatch reliability is very good on them right now.
However, if your alternative is the CRJ900, YVR-PHX is maxing out the range of that aircraft. And if you are planning on doing the trip this summer, you could very easily be weight restricted on both ends. If PHX requires an alternate due to thunderstorms, well PHX has few options close by and they won’t be able to carry much extra fuel. Also, on the return, if PHX is getting near 44-45C on the temps, no way that bird takes a full load to YVR.
Take the MAX8. You don’t have to love it, but you’ll be glad you did.
Back in the early days of GPS, it took my sister on 1/2 that route going DeKalb → MDW to pick up her fiancé. Came in on 88-290 and due south on Cicero. Those of us in the know were shocked once she told us about the route that evening.
Was looking for flights for October for NIT actually.
Potential to be weight restricted when I am bringing golf clubs seems to be bad.
No real issue with MAX 8 to be honest. Flew one from YVR to CUN last year. Was looking for assurances that MAX 8 is a better/more reliable option than CRJ 900.
Where is the NIT at? I have been checking for announcements but haven’t seen any yet.
Dobson Ranch in Mesa.
Might be semantics, but I believe it’s scheduled for that first November weekend. So a Halloween Thursday flight might be in order.
Unless the date got moved, it was originally announced for the weekend prior to Halloween. I know that because the Saturday of that weekend is my son’s birthday so I can’t attend this year.
The invitation card a received from ABandoned Dudes said “see you in November” - so that’s what I was going off of
Baltimore and bwi has unfounded hate imo. All around.
Other than the 1.5 hr drive to bwi. Prefer it over iAd and Dca. Was awesome when we lived about 10 and then 30 mins away
Love the up close parking when company is paying for it.
I’d avoided American for years but had no other good choice to get back from my cousin’s wedding in Des Moines next week. They’ve changed my flight three times so now I’m up to a four hour layover at DFW, and I can’t pick new seats on the website or the app because they’re both not working. I will be doing my best to avoid them again for years if at all possible.
Any good restaurant recommendations at DFW since I’ll have so much time to kill?
Ary is correct - October 24-26.
I have a Larry David-esque question on plane boarding etiquette: if you are a Top Tier Member of an airline who boards first (i.e. - Global Services, Diamond Medallion, etc.), are you able to skip the line when later groups are boarding if you show up to the gate a bit late and after your level group has already boarded?
Yeah of course, but if you don’t tell everyone around you that you are a GS member or whatever then it doesn’t count.
If I was in line to board as a member of group D, I would probably think quietly in my head “Man, that guy is an a-hole. Get to the gate on time if you want to board first.”
I can see someone with a shorter fuse giving you a hard time about it.
Yes but you should just walk up to the front and you’ll get scanned thru.
I have zero status on any carrier, but I’d feel bad enough about cutting the line I would just queue up with everyone else and try to get there earlier next time. A couple trips ago I was late arriving to my gate and was supposed to board with Delta Comfort+ but didn’t get there until main cabin had started. I just got in the back of the line, my seat was reserved anyway so no big deal. I suppose the only risk there is overhead space, my bag did have to go back a few rows but the flight crew was fantastic and retrieved it for me for deplaning so I didn’t have to wait forever.

Shoutout to @Randy & @Tron for getting this ironed out with the higher ups. Doing the people’s work.
The SFO to Bend flight is great. Took it this time last year. Definitely the best way to get to Bandon.
