If you’re in DC-proper or near DC-proper, the answer is always DCA. National Harbor is probably a 20 minute cab ride from DCA. It will be over an hour from Dulles or BWI.
For ease of getting into DC, it’s DCA >>>>>> BWI >>> IAD. BWI isn’t terrible, because you can take the train from there to Union Station, but DCA is so much easier.
The new Delta terminal at LAX is excellent. Feels like you’re in an an airport in a civilized country in the 21st Century. And the SkyClub has to be the best in the system. Truly shocking development for LAX.
I would add my grateful two cents for Cathay Pacific. Direct Hong Kong to Chicago. Every. Day.
They’re always on time and VERY well managed. Crew were great too. Decent to really good food.
I made that flight close to a dozen times, round trip, and they really do take care of you. Living in KC, and asked to go anywhere in AustraliAsia, I’m booking that flight and will jettison from Hong Kong, one of the world’s best airports.
Airport lounges are maybe the most overrated thing ever. There was probably a time when they were legit, but that time has passed.
They’re usually massively over crowded. The food is almost always mediocre and unhealthy. People are rude, they leave messes, they hog space. People get sloppy drunk and loud.
I get these airlines are glorified points businesses, but come on. Stop letting guests in and stop letting everyone with a freaking chase or Amex card come in. Status should mean something.
There’s a massive, massive spectrum on lounges. Lounges accessed via a credit card probably not great. Lounges accessed via an international premium cabin ticket can be incredible.
Cathay is Honk King’s international carrier. Along with Singapore’s Chiang Mi airport, HKA is Asia’s biggest hub. You are likely to fly into HK (or SG, or even Incheon in Korea) before going anywhere else in Asia.
Has anyone done Rome lately? Doing a family adventure/vacation with my wife , 14 and 12 yr old daughters in 3 weeks. Just curious what kind of shit show i should mentally prep for. Air France Boston - Rome and then Rome to Sicily on a quick hop.
Where are you staying in Rome? And how are you getting from Airport to said location?
This was Pre-Shit Show that the current travel situation is, but I was recommended to get a private driver to get into the city from the airport. It was marginally more expensive then a local taxi/cab and very much worth it. Like I am very glad we did it. I set it up through our hotel, a fancy BMW picked us up and drove us into the city. Was great…and resonably priced. However this was pre Shit Show. Things are likely different.
Rome’s airport has been a cluster since the beginning of recorded history. Allow for a lot of extra time getting thru security, and bring carry-on bags with enough essentials to cover your ass if all your luggage gets lost.
I flew there once as a child in 2003, had a shit time, and have never heard a good review of Rome’s airport since then.
