We’d love to hear about at least a few of them
Some of them are straight up thieved from the boys, but as a sampling of the 23-themed goals:
- exercise 23 days per month/lose 23 pounds
- complete 23 home improvement projects
- learn 23 songs from beginning to end on guitar
- make 23 birdies (I only average about 12 rounds per year that aren’t charity scrambles so on my own ball, this is almost 2 per round which is a stretch, but doable).
- 23 hours of pro bono work
- reach out to/engage with 23 new potential clients or referral sources
Of the non-23-themed goals, the biggest one is making partner (which is ultimately out of my control but theoretically I can do a lot of things within my control to make it impossible for them to not promote me this year).
listened to the goals pod this morning, here’s what I put on our “wish board” at home (since the kids don’t really understand the meaning of “resolution”). Writing this down to make it real, and yes, I will print it out.
Do less, focus more.
Especially last year, I was massively overwhelmed with responsibilities and spread way too thin, and absolutely everything suffered as a result.
Screens off, books open after 10pm
I used to read a lot, many factors caused the end of that habit, and no specific quantity of books to get through, but tying into the first goal I want to refocus my time.
60+ rounds
I looked at my GHIN and saw I only played 30 rounds last year, 15 after June 1st. no doubt the least I’ve played since I started.
0.0+
I’m hoping this is the result of the other goals above. I’ve slowly crept up pretty much exactly .5 shot on my index every year for the last 6, from a low of +1.5. Yes, this would be a big trend reversal, but I do have a plan on how to achieve it, and I’ve done it before.
Hit zero range balls in 2023 - Following in Big Randy’s footsteps here but I think I can pull it off.
Rest of my goals are TBD.
Was listening to the Goals pod this morning and heard @Tron mention NLU getting active in the “portal”.
Shane Bacon just tweeted this a few minutes ago:
So now I’m flaking on work stuff and instead imagining Shane Bacon doing play by play on a Wide World of Golf with @Randy continuing to provide on course commentary and @djpie doing his Costas and I am getting excited!
Interesting hypothesis but can confirm this is not in the #plans
Dang. You couldn’t let this fester for half a day to fuel speculation and support procrastination?!?!?
Well back to work…I guess.
Thanks a lot, @Randy!
Actually nevermind, back to speculating who’s coming to NLU from the portal.
My 2023 goal to be more productive is going great.
how dumb is this
drink shit from who knows where
popular much?
DJ should add drink 100 of those to his 2023 goals. #prime100
@Tron for your Vegas goal, throwing it out there that 2 huge pro pool events are going to be at the Rio. Starts February 22, goes to March 4. Could be a great TD topic as well.
@MerchCzar Run with Hal is an awesome running app that keeps ya honest. Bit of gamification with grading workouts, etc. You tell it when your race is and it schedules out runs that sort of ramp up in intensity as you get closer. If you’re looking to add another book, he’s got a book as well.
Does anyone know why Shane’s no longer at NBC?
Not sure where else to ask this but per @djpie’s IG story, 15(!!) birdies in 2 days were added to his tally at the Wisco event?! What is the total at now? Gotta be close to half way
The cast is pretty stunning on rewatch: Hartnett, Bana, McGregor, Sizemore, Hardy, Bloom, Piven. Oh, . . . Sam Shepppard. And a few others: Ty Burrell, William Fichtner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
25min into the 2024 pod and I am screaming at myself “Randy already said it’s a leap year, so make it the Reap Year!” I really hope the boys don’t miss that gimme…
Goals pod is my favourite annual tradition and I’ve listened to every one. Normally with a long new year walk and a bit of reflection of the previous year and mulling some goals (which I will never track) for the year ahead.
REAPING is good and laughed at @Tron 's “Slim Reaper” but then thought the Trim Reaper might even be better.
Wrapping up the 2024 pod, would love some literature on those games @djpie and Justine play as I also have a wife who is trying to play more but straight golf just doesn’t move the needle as a game between us.
@djpie the Hansel reference didn’t get the love it should. I see you.
One that we really like is a 9 hole game (with handicaps) where you just count five holes. You have to decide as you’re walking off the green whether you’re counting that one or not. Can lead to some tense final holes if you paint yourself into a corner!
