Okay, did anyone else have visions of St. Rappeo’s burial site when @LivingLagunaLoca was describing Marie Laveau’s grave?
Awesome pod, @Tron and @Randy.
I’m ready to eat my way through NOLA with Ben’s people.

Very good Pod. My wife is from Southern Louisiana. On my first driving trip down there she had a lot of fun getting me to try to pronounce the names of towns. It was lot like this:
I haven’t got to the pod yet but NOLA is probably my favorite city in America. The music, food, history, culture etc. is just incredible and unlike anywhere else. My cousin lived there for about a decade so every time I visited we had local (though not native) knowledge of where to go/eat/do which was helpful. An amazing city everyone should try to visit.
Loved the Lafayette, LA shoutout. @LivingLagunaLoca y’all didn’t get too deep into Poboys but what is your favorite New Orleans poboy spot? Mine has got to be the Half Fried Shrimp & Half Fried Oyster Poboy at Parkway Bakery and Tavern or the Debris Poboy at Mother’s.
All my family is in an around Lafayette so it’ll always be special to me.
My go to is Guy’s Poboys. It’s a tiny little poboy shop Uptown. Parkways are very good as well.
Haha yeah you get some old French & Native American names that can get out there. My mom’s fam is primarily Grand Coteau, Mamou, and Opelousas. So hearing folks trying to pronounce those is hilarious.
My buddy did a video of Cajun name proper pronunciations last year and people’s reactions was a trip.
I lived in Lafayette growing up but went to Middle and High School in Opelousas (actually took the Grand Coteau exit to get there). We played Mamou and a ton of the other small schools/towns in and around Opelousas in high school athletics. What a small world!
Loved the pod - was just in NOLA over the weekend. Ate at Clancy’s Friday night (my dad’s fraternity brother and his wife are the owners) and Jacque-Imos Saturday night. Hit Urban South, Zony Mash, Brieux Carre and Courtyard for breweries. Dooky Chase for lunch Friday. Wish I could have squeezed Cochon Butcher in but didn’t have time.
Can we get a link to the food blog in here please?
Can’t wait to go back already.
Shit we might just be kinfolk haha.
Clancy’s and the owners are wonderful. I don’t really recommend it to people visiting cause it’s a ways from downtown for food people are coming here to specifically eat.
By the looks y’all had a seriously good weekend. Cochon and Cochon Butcher are also favorites of mine. We had our rehearsal dinner at their private dining space upstairs.
Thank you!
I could eat Clancy’s soft shell crab 3 meals a day and never tire of it.
Those, the fried sweet breads with brie, lobster risotto, and the smoked pork chop are all favorites of mine.
Enjoyed the pod @LivingLagunaLoca.
Got a few locals in the NOLA area questioning Acme Oyster House as a tourist trap. Any other recommendations or should I just tell them to quit being hardos? They did agree with many of your recs on hotels and other stuff.
As the cook in our household, I’ll have to check out your site for some recipes. The pictures look phenomenal. Keep up the good work!
Haha I figured I’d get some hate there. It is a bit of a tourist trap. Whenever I give recs I take into consideration that people may want to go to the popular tourist spots, and if you’re just getting to down on a Thursday afternoon you may not want to travel more to get out of downtown. Hopefully I don’t lose my New Orleans credentials.
You can find charbroiled oysters at most restaurants in New Orleans that serve seafood. Some others are Katie’s, Neyow’s, Frankie & Johnny’s, Don’s, Superior Seafood.
Can also never go wrong with either Casamentos or Pascal Manale for raw oysters. Although, Casmaentos has really random hours so it always hard to recommend.
It’s been a few years, but I’d highly recommend cocktails at the rotating bar at “The Carousel” in the Hotel Monteleone. It’s a sight and has damn good drinks.
This was a great pod content wise, but I cannot deal with the “ohm…” every 5 seconds
Tried to get in there on Saturday night, no dice. Line out the door.
Cochon Butcher is always a must for boudin. @LivingLagunaLoca any other spots you recommend for boudin? It can be hard to find in NOLA.
We like Elizabeth’s in Bywater for brunch but can be bad about not venturing out of the FQ.
Haven’t ever done the Country Club thing, what are your thoughts on that?
Also always heard good things about Bacchanal Wine too.
The pod had me ready to book flights and get back! Great job!
I should add, very suitable for an episode of day-drinking.
