Just feels like Tron’s family ties make it a home game.
The Netherlands would be an almost perfect combination of great golf and culture.
Japan would be incredible too. But, access to the great courses in Japan would be quite difficult I imagine.
Argentina and Korea too.
Then there is New Zealand, a redo of Australia and, finally, England.
With England I’m sure they’ll think carefully as to which courses / clubs / stories to cover. Eg They could cover the restoration of the Addington, find a 36 hole Open comp they could all enter and play in at one of the old school courses (incl jacket and tie and massive dodgy carvery lunch), do a Cotswolds quirk episode about Cleeve Hill, Minchinhampton and Painswick, cover some rivalries between clubs / Oxford/Cambridge matches etc.
Surprised to see Tron leading. On a recent pod (forget which one) he proclaimed to Soly that 2023 was going to be his year. It had a very “I suck right now but I’m determined to get it back next year” vibe to me. I don’t think Tron wins this TS.
Also @Soly is already 1-up on the pronunciation of “Slott”.
England should probably be two seasons. There’s a London based season with trips to out to Deal, RSG, and Princes, the Surrey/Berkshire clubs, and a round or two at places like The Addington that are tube/cab trips from central London. The other is a northern focused season at Hoylake, Birkdale, Lytham, Formby, etc and maybe a trip over to Woodhall Spa. You could also include Wales in one of them as well.
Thinking a bit more, Hadley Wood is a must for the London season purely for the stop at Cockfosters.
England could be several. So could Scotland and Ireland. Wales another.
I understand it’s not like it should be entirely focused on the UK but when that’s where the great golf is that’d be my preference by far as a viewer. All of those more golf-centered destinations are more rewatchable as well.
My review of episode one was that it was wonderfully shot and was fun to watch. I’ll watch the whole season.
After watching the first episode I don’t think Scandinavia was a good choice. I understand the intention but think it’s at best an evolution of the tourist sauce brand that takes it away from what I loved about it to begin with and at worst it’s actually a bit arrogant and out of touch. But that’s just my opinion!
Wow. It’s interesting that we can think this differently about it. That’s the beauty of content though I guess.
I couldn’t disagree more with arrogant and out of touch. For me, I’d enjoy a UK series, but I also don’t really need it because a lot of that golf has been showcased (England excluded a bit). Scandinavia is a place I’ve always been interested in and didn’t know much about the golf culture there. TS is an exploration of places I may or may not see. It’s all fun.
so funny
just listened a bit to the TS Pod
love it as I have travelled throughout the area except north of Lofoten and Oslo
@Soly “I’ve never played Erin Hills but that’s what it felt like”
“water felt kind of unnecessary here” in Denmark, essentially an island nation! LOL re Great Northern
@MerchCzar “we build Legolands, we got this”, so awesome
@djpie “steep, I’m gonna have a heart attack” LOL
@Tron “how bout those Swans feeding underwater” most water birds invert like that
@Big_RanDeer “french press coffee” definitely leaves an impression!!!
everyone with young kids needs to go to Legoland in Billund
For sure.
For me the series is about buddies golf trips. Obviously it can evolve from that, all I’m saying is I don’t prefer that evolution in this instance.
I would rather watch the gang on a golf trip vs a vacation. This feels, and the gang has basically said this was, like a vacation.
I’ll for sure go to Scandinavia at some point in my life. But spending one of my precious and limited golf trip tokens on it isn’t realistic.
It also appears to be by far the most unreasonable amount of travel while on the trip, and it was two weeks.
The rest of TS have had a “you could do this trip!” vibe and this doesn’t seem like that. Obviously it’s only been one episode so I could be wrong.
I have no doubt it will be fun to watch and will be funny and well shot and all that.
The you could do this is highly relative for a lot of people.
It also depends on the kinds of trips you take. I haven’t been able to get friends to take traditional golf trips. But luckily my wife is awesome and signed off on a ridiculous golf quest. So if I proposed a trip to Scandinavia with golf she’d be in. We don’t have children which I understand is a huge caveat.
Where I think we mostly disagree (respectfully of course) is on your dislike of the season. To me this is a one off (or rare) change of pace, which I appreciate. Golf sickos know all about the U.K., Australia, etc.
With this season I get to see friends enjoy a trip to a new place while @Tron has a personal connection to it. I’m fully in on the concept.
They should’ve turned down Tron’s pitch regardless of how cool his wife’s aunt is lol
To each their own!
It’s a beautiful part of the world. Will be epic in HD. Drone will be showing off.
When you’re in a hotel quarantined from your wife who has Covid (long story) you drink bourbon and re-watch Tourist Sauce.
I could do a version of this trip from say Thursday to the next Sunday
depart Thursday from PNW go thru Oslo to Lofoten arrive Friday (4 flights and a car)
depart Lofoten Monday go thru Stockholm, rent car and ferry to Visby (3 flights, car, ferry)
depart Gotland Thursday drive to Copenhagen (car and ferry)
depart Copenhagen Sunday
back at the office Monday
planes, ferries and automobiles
This is how I interpret is as well. There’s some future potential Tourist Sauce locations that are known great golf locations (like England, Wisconsin, Japan, etc), but assuming this is a series NLU wants to continue for many for seasons, they need to thrown in some lesser known locations that they think might make great content for reasons other then just the golf.
I hear ya. But…
Do they “need to” though? Great content for reasons other than golf? Isn’t it a golf show?
I’m sure most of my thoughts were shared amongst the crew and they’re adults and can take my submission to the feed back box in stride.
To me it will be interesting to see how the views stack up against other seasons. My hypothesis is that less non-hard-core NLU fans will tune in to watch this because it is not going to be a showcase of a possible “traditional golf trip itinerary”. I would think that will impact the numbers of views. I’m not sure how much that matters to the guys but I think that’s interesting and I’m sure it will be part of the discussion.
It’s almost like a Vinny Chase “do one for them and one for you” scenario. Scandinavia is Tron’s Queen Boulevard. I want Aquaman 2 on the west coast of Scotland including Machrihanish and Askernish. For example.
Anyway obviously I am a fully invested consumer of all things NLU. Looking forward to seeing if the Lofoten episode is a massive payoff that proves me wrong.
the guys do care a little where they go, as it’s the greatest boondoggle for golf
the list of places they’ve played because of this “show” includes some of the best in the world
London will continue the boondoggle for them
It’s a boondoggle?
I thought it was their own show
Where they do golf stuff
total and complete boondoggle
Is Neil saying something embarrassing around a dinner table in episode 1 of each season going to become a running gag?
