Tourist Sauce Season 7: Michigan Wine and Dine

@djpie Wondering if you made any conscious changes for the sound mix for this season (and Strapped NM?) I’m not a sound professional. It seems like the sound is wider or more ambient. Maybe because everyone is mic’d up?

It also cannot be overstated the impact of public accounting specifically here. It’s unique in the hatred that almost all former public accountants hold for it long after they’ve left (myself included). And it’s not limited to people who struggle there. I would argue the people who succeed there hate it the most. I was there for 6 years and was a level of miserable I cannot fully put into words for the last 3. We had running jokes in the office of hoping we’d get run over by a bus on the way home from work.

Was also in public accounting myself. Absolutely despised the chargeable hours BS that comes along with that line of work. Coming from a family, I’ve always believed that you work until the work is done and then go home. Got out myself and now work for a cannabis company doing accounting but its great to see how it’s a piece of the business.

This episode highlighted for me to truly do what you love and search for it until you find it. There’s no sense in wasting time with things that don’t make you happy. Especially when a good part of your life is spent at work.

I would echo that it would be cool to see similar “hometown” episodes, even outside of the Tourist Sauce spectrum. Not that you need more #content ideas I’m sure.

We all know @djpie only shows true form playing against @Soly

a true David & Goliath match

Trust me, it’s a tough scene from personal experience up here in Ohio.

Ding ding. Mic’d up directly. First season we have done this. It makes a huge difference but also doubles editing time.

Man, I don’t know how @Randy enters this thread at this point. If I were him I’d just take it all in from the bleachers.

I would rather be boiled alive than read a thread full of strangers discussing my work history

Loved seeing Boyne again- When I played the Hills course the first time a few years ago, it reminded me of Longaberger, an Arthur Hills design outside of Columbus.

What a great episode, for real. Echoing the sentiment above - it might be my favorite piece of media y’all have released. Really personified the come-up of NLU through a vulnerable and sincere interviewee.
I would let @Randy officiate my wedding any day

Fantastic episode and, like many, one that hits home for me. I’m going to be 50 in a month, I work for a company that does interesting things, they pay me well, and I don’t have the stress and long hours of previous companies. However, I’m still not happy with work but I know I’m so lucky to have what I have. I grew up in a small town in Canada but through a series of “right place at the right time” events, I now live in London which I love.

My girlfriend / partner quit her job 2 years ago and started her own consulting business at the start of the pandemic. She’s done amazingly well, has more work and clients than she can manage and loves it. I go back and forth between being incredibly proud of her and pissed off that I haven’t figured out what I could do that would make me as happy as she is.

Reading this board today makes me feel better that I’m not the only one feeling a bit lost from time to time. This is a good community. Thanks.

Is no one else going to call out DJ for throwing this match? The missed putts, the concession on 17 after Randy missed half a dozen 3 footers in that match. And just like the true old-timey Bond villain he is, he confesses to the crime post-match and puts it in the video. “It would have really screwed up the plotline had you lost, Randy.”

Is @djpie the Bad Art Friend?

Nah, if he beat Randy at Boyne during Randy’s episode it would have made him the Bad Golf Friend.

But taking a dive “for the content” and then crowing about his altruism publicly . . . I dunno

I mean, I hope that’s tongue in cheek. Unless YOU are the guy who can ALWAYS make putts. If you noticed on 17, Randy’s ball was right there and they were already dormie, right? I think these guys are plenty competitive, and DJ just lost the match.

I have a non-golfing friend and I desperately need to figure out how to get him to watch this episode. Like Randy he got a degree in business because it seemed like what he should do (honestly, the only reason he went to college was because it was what you did after high school - he would have been well served to take a gap year and figure some stuff out but there was no way his parents would have allowed that). Unlike Randy he stayed on that path. Now he’s worked in finance for a decade and while I wouldn’t say he’s sad, he’s definitely not a happy soul either. He’s just kind of existing, talking about all the trips he wants to take but we both know he never will, despite having nothing that stops him from going. Seeing a real-world example what could happen if you take the time to try and figure out what makes you happy could be exactly the kind of shake up he needs.

This was good. I really enjoyed it. I feel like @djpie, me and @Randy should start a wrestling stable. Or a band. Something. Not sure what yet.

Maybe a rollerblading crew.
