So happy you went to Dimo’s. I live about 5 minutes from there and my whole family just loves the place. When I go in to get donuts for the hospital the owner always throws in extra for free. There is no better custard filled long John in the world, and I’ve tried to find one. The apple fritter is amazing as well. @Randy was that one of the biggest omelettes you’ve ever eaten? There’s gotta be 6 eggs and about 8 oz of ham in the Western. There is nothing better in AA for breakfast after an overnight in the hospital.
I thought it was a wonderful depiction of our town and the course. They gave you a tasty pin on 12. @Tron with the proper play short and right. 12 can really hit you in the mouth. The stretch from 2-4 is as tough a three hole stretch as you can find. I agree that 3 is one of the hardest par 5s I’ve ever played. No let up in that hole. Have tried the big hook around the trees many times. Never worked. You just gotta put a wedge in your hand and hit a really good one. Glad 7 got some love. It took me time to figure this out, but you are actually better laying back so you can spin a full shot into the green than you are trying to hit a 40-60 yard shot if you bomb a drive. It’s just a masterfully designed hole that makes you make a choice and then execute perfectly.
The thing that you captured well in a short time is just how hard it is to hit it close out there. The uneven fairway lies, blind pin positions, protected areas of the green, and weird angles totally defend the flag. Even if you’re striping irons there is a randomness to the result that you just have to accept. It’s a difficult golf course for most to score well on. Discomfort was an apt description.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, but I feel for @Soly. He handled the ass-beating with aplomb. A true sportsman.
Finally, I gotta know what shades @Soly is sporting in this episode. I would buy a pair today. They were fresh.
Great episode. I was already kicking myself for going to the (as it turned out, closed) MoTown museum rather than the UM course the day before Maxamania but this episode was a visual reminder that sometimes I make poor life choices.
Also, as a high handicap in a couple of year-long matchplay events, @Soly quickly changing focus from winning to just not getting Ames’d was a moment I felt in my bones.
Not trying to kiss ass here, but kudos to @Tron for that performance especially on the front. That was a clinic throughout the bag especially when juxtaposed with Soly’s struggles. I was skeptical on the whole “lefty for a year will help balance out my muscles” reasoning, but I’ll be dammed if the swing doesn’t look tighter and dare I say a touch more speed.
What else to say, but another tremendous TS episode? Expertly incorporating the comradery with the feel of the location, the golf course, entertaining golf shots, and local eats. 10/10. Would watch again. Wait. I already did.
@sundaybag not sure if you noticed this at the time, but @Soly played #3 from the EXACT same positions you did when we played before Maxamania. Both of you hit 2nd shots that did not hook.
I remember you hitting your third shot from way up there and wondering what the hell it would look like, and now I know.
Currently in the same position and generally agree about clearing trees but I really don’t want to be standing on the 4th tee as idiots try and bomb a 3W over my head.
Reminded me of the first time I ever went to NYC. Went to a bagel shop was looking at the board (admittedly stoned) and the guy goes “ey guy whattaya want on ya fuckin bagel”
This was it! Guy ended up being a softy though. Think Neil ended up talking to him about what we are doing. Dimo sent us out with a dozen donuts and a smile - on the house!
