Tourist Sauce Season 6 - Oregon: Finale @ Silvies (Craddock Routing)

When we were researching where to go in Bend we looked hard at Tokatee, the courses at Sun River and Black Butte, and then a little spot outside Bend called Prineville GC. A lot of locals and longtime Oregon folks said Tokatee is a pretty magical spot cut out from the forests. I really enjoyed Tetherow, but not sure what your budget is.

The wrist widget saved my 2016 golf season. Went into that Spring with ongoing wrist pain on the pinky side, to the point where I couldn’t turn my palm to my face. The wrist widget helped tremendously! It allowed me to continue golfing that year without issues (aside from my first couple swings of warmup always being a little sore).

Tokatee is magic. It’s far enough away from Bend that you’d have to basically commit close to an entire day to play, but the drive takes you through an amazing stretch of highway through the Cascades and is probably worth it alone.

My recommendation would be Tetherow. Just tons of fun. Beyond that, Pronghorn Nicklaus is pretty good, and conditioning is off the charts if you’re into that sort of thing.

Man, so agree on Tokatee . I haven’t been back in over 20 years but that was our “special occasion” course in college when we wanted to break free from Laurelwood in Eugene (which, btw, sounds like it’s having a renaissance?)

Also, loved seeing the first stop in the ep be McMenamins Edgefield. We played there during my bachelor party, as I’m sure so many others have.

The only time I’ve ever played it was … on a bachelor party trip.

My last recollection of Laurelwood was driving up there for my “final” for Golf 101. In a nutshell; can you hit this bucket of golf balls and have them land on the driving range or even just driving range adjacent? You can? A for you.

Daughter is finishing up her last year and has been playing it somewhat regularly. I’ll have to ask her about this alleged renaissance. I know it’s as popular as ever with the students. Especially with everything else shut down.

Tetherow is actually not too bad this time of year. I think that will be a definite.

We are staying in Sun River so I guess I’ll have to investigate those courses. Just did a quick google maps and looks like Tokatee is 2.5 hour drive so unfortunately that is out.

This is not a golf trip, just a trip with my gfs family, that thankfully understand my needs. Hoping to get 2-3 rounds in for the week.

Any reason why you wouldn’t just play the Sunriver courses? Crosswater is phenomenal.

Quail Run is another option that is south of Sunriver. A good budget option!

Agree with @DanFoutsBeard on Crosswater, it’s one of my favorite courses in the world. I was just in Sunriver last month (been going there on and off for a long time) and played it 2x, along with Meadows and Woodlands.

As far as I know, Crosswater is semi-private, so you need an invite, or you can get on if you book your room/condo/house thru Sunriver Resort.

Meadows and Woodlands are pretty good. They are not Crosswater, Tetherow or Pronghorn good IMHO, but certainly worth it if you’re staying there. They’re different to one another, so ideally you’d play both, but I prefer Woodlands. Think the holes are stronger overall on Woodlands.

It’s documented in the Oregon roll call thread, but I bang the drum hard for the new Laurelwood design and routing. Pure greens, dense forest that’s not too penal (if that’s a things), and a pub overlooking 1 tee and 9 green. Tokatee opened back up last week, so I’m headed there Friday!

I admittedly have not read this entire thread, but when I saw @Soly in this:

I immediately thought of the Downy “half-washed” t-shirt date commercial:

Ah, I’ll have to make a point of driving down and playing it with my daughter then.

If you look at the fire maps, Tokatee was gratefully spared from the Holiday Farm fire, but it was a close one for a while. I was supposed to play it on my way to Black Butte this summer but… fire.

I knew I saw this info on the Fuge somewhere…here’s a link to a post and TFE article on Laurelwood.

Well damn it, now I’m definitely heading down for a round. Great article. Sad to see the physical manifestation of a non sequitur, the low cyclone fence around the driving range, is no longer there, but I should be able to manage without it.

Hahaha I made the exact comment in the live chat last night. I wear the shit out of that shirt and I’m now realizing it’s time to put it to rest.

Honestly, I was the most relaxed of any season so far, and that’s thanks to @sundaybag. I’ve usually been the assistant to the regional manager for Tourist Sauce and while that role is minor compared to the load that @djpie bears, the difference in stressing about footage compared to not stressing about it is astronomical. Easily the most fun I’ve had on one of these trips.

I feel like this was pretty evident in the wrap-up pod.

Whether it was because the courses were just that good, or the guise were just able to relax more, or both.

The detail and breakdown of the courses seemed different (in a good way) than past season pods.
