Tourist Sauce Season 3: LA to San Francisco

So many awesome moments at MSG.

man…i had this one in college, probably purchased in roughly 2003

cleaned out a bunch of stuff in my spare closets 2-3 years ago and foolishly sent all my jerseys to goodwill

on the tag in the lower right, just above 85, there is a SJU that I don’t believe they used until the 90’s or 00’s, which leads me to believe it is not truly vintage. I’d still buy it, but not for $125.

yeah no, thats a re-release…probably the same one i had back when throwback jerseys were all the rage

well, they didn’t go by the Redmen after 94, so it’s older than that (again, assuming some authenticity of the garment itself)

no, i don’t think that is necessarily true. as @Fore20 says, this is a re-release, which could have been produced at any time, really. companies like Mitchell & Ness, which have been around forever, got really popular at some point (early 2000’s?) and made a killing on these remakes. the big companies (Nike, et al) got in on the trend big time, too.

correct, re-releases of throwback jerseys blew up in the early 2000’s thanks to down south rap music

im still mad i got rid of the mullin jersey…the others were entirely too big for me, but thats when i wore 3 XL white tees on the daily…again, thanks to down south rap music

yeah, that’s what I mean by “assuming some” – because it’s called an “authentic vintage 85”

if they never used SJU prior to then, avoid

Wow, Jeff Adrien jersey. My brother played against him in high school. I’ve never seen someone get swatted as bad as when my brother tried to drive on him. Absolutely classic. Always thought he was going to have a better career than he did

When we moved last year I had to sort through the box of old jerseys I had in the basement.

At some point I’m going to have to find an excuse to wear the Darius Miles clippers jersey again.

its summer?

theres your excuse

the story in the players tribune with him and Q was absolutely fascinating

mmm. not entirely true.

hear me out. My wife is brand new to golf.

She has no idea what makes courses good or bad, and has never looked at a list at all.

Shes been around to a lot of courses so far, and i dont provide her with any of my ideas about what makes for a good course.

So far, her rankings, match almost exactly with mine. But we havent played Oakmont or Pebble

Yeah there are plenty of golfers that don’t give a shit about professional golf or golf that exists anywhere outside of their hometown. A lot of people I play with wouldn’t have a clue what Oakmont is. Pebble, yeah, but most people that don’t play golf know what Pebble is.

This is basically my wife. She likes experiencing new courses. Her key criteria, Was it a fun course to play? Thats it.

We are amateur golfers, out there for fun.

Lots of “Light of the Seven” vibes in the music leading up to @Randy’s putt.

Anyone wearing a Chris Mullin jersey better a) spell his last name right and b) get that serious buzz cut hair cut that he sported so consistently. I’m not sure there’s a better NY accent in the history of basketball.

Fun Mullin story, sort of - as most know, he had an issue with alcohol and entered rehab early on his Warriors career. (Trust me, this isn’t the fun part, but we’re getting there.) When he got out, the Warriors sent a car and were prepping to take him home and he said he wanted to go to the gym instead to shoot baskets. When he got there, coach Don Nelson (NELLIE!) was there. Mullin walked out on the court, having spent, I believe, a full month in rehab not touching a basketball, and drained somewhere between 150-200 straight free throws.

My boy COULD SHOOT.

Lest we forget Darius Miles’ cameo in Van Wilder.

Great story. He could definitely shoot. So pure.

My neighbor (Brian Mahoney) when I was growing up was an assistant coach when Mullin was at St. John’s, and later became the head coach. I was close with his nephews, both my age, so we got to go to tons of games and get to meet all the players frequently. Mullin was the best, with Walter Berry a somewhat close second.

During Mullin’s time away from the Warriors after rehab (1987 or 1988, I think) he came back to new york for a few days to visit friends and family, because he was in rehab for Christmas. I just had a birthday when he was getting out, and wanted to use my sweet new black leather Michael Jordan basketball, so I went an hour early to the church gym ahead of CYO practice. My Dad dropped me off, because there was always someone there shooting hoops. That morning, the only guy in there was Chris Mullin. He was stroking J after J, effortlessly. I stood in awe, wishing there was someone else there to validate that it was real. When he noticed me there, we spent a minute talking (mumbling, really - he barely opens his mouth to speak, to this day) and then he watched me shoot a few, telling me I needed a much higher release to get the ball arcing properly (I still have bad form, never adopting his practice habits). Soon enough, Mahoney came through the gym, and they left together, before anyone else showed. My teammates (virtually all St. John’s fans) didn’t believe me, but it is a great memory for me.

Was never much of an NBA guy growing up but loved Syracuse basketball (both parents and entire extended family were from there) so naturally I had every Carmelo jersey…Cuse, Nuggets (multiple variations), and Oak Hill. Even picked up a Knicks one when he came over here but that was where it ended. As a not very tall chubby white guy basketball jerseys just werent a good look for me (shout out to my dudes who wore short sleeve white shirts under theirs too!).

I would have killed for a Kueth Duany jersey though.
