Agree with all this, although the roundtrip to Dornoch would be a heck of slog, even in June.
Cullen is nowhere near anywhere, which would be a contributing factor.
Yes, agree. In reality there will be other similar venues that you could stay at closer either to Aberdeen or to Inverness / Dornoch that could fulfil a similar role.
Ultimately Cullen is fairly remote and not really on the way to anywhere that many golf tourists would look to go to or stay at.
And as popular as NLU is, I donât think it is quite at the level that it is going to encourage thousands of visitors to a small Scottish Golf Club.
I added Cullen onto a trip to the Highlands next year because weâre flying into ABZ. My trip mates are being forced to not be âBag Tag Barryâ by letting me plan. Theyâre getting Fraserburgh, Cullen, Spey Bay, Tain, Golspie, and Brora. Theyâll get bag tags at Dornoch and Cruden Bay but thatâs it!
I know the area, but not the golf courses. There is plenty of opportunity for whisky distillery tours, and I would say at least one is a must if you have never done one before.
For the non âBag Tag Barryâ clubs, you will still find these enjoyable but the conditioning likely will not be as good and during the week you might find ground staff working in the morning (albeit the whole course will be in play).
Scotland has a huge number of accessible courses that are run as members clubs. Most of them will allow visitors Sunday to Friday, depending on what members events are on and midweek rounds are often very reasonably priced. Likewise, you might get twilight rates.
Also heard wonderful things of Boat of Garten golf course, but again, never been up for a game.
Might be worth researching for a non-links venue.
I often use the A95 road from Aviemore to Keith and the Spey valley is stunning, so I imagine the scenery at Boat of Garten will be unreal.
This
also at least in cullen it was late in the afternoon and could have been a weekday.
Some times youâve got take trip of the beaten path to truly find something different, we did it this we played a 9 hole course twice you play from slightly different tees on the back 9 its called Killin Golf Club. This was the most enjoyable round weâd had on our trip.
The Cullen video was sweet! That place looks like so much fun.
Georgeâs right leg sweep into his follow through is a thing of beauty.
Somewhat reminiscent of Hosung Choi.
Seemed like a good hole to throw our support behind! Shout out to @Randy for spearheading that one.
The Invernessians will be apoplectic with this
Both of them?!
Was it Jack or Watson that said the courses in Scotland get better and better the further north you go? It may have just been in reference to the Rota, but I think there is a slice of truth to it with some exceptions.
Jack said it about Open rota courses
Boxing Day.
