Tourist Sauce, Season 2 (SCOTLAND)

Very fair point and I totally agree.

To play Devil’s Advocate here, is it a smidge hypocritical to have an issue with the labeling when you guys call yours “Tourist Sauce”, which means absolutely nothing to people outside of the NLU universe?

Just thinking that labels are fairly meaningless sometimes, and when you put something like “official unofficial” you clearly aren’t taking it too seriously and trying to create an all encompassing guide to Scotland.

Yea that’s ultimately what I was getting at. There is no NEED for comparison, or anything really on here that get’s posted, but that’s what we do. Just conversation and all…

I said I enjoyed it…AND that it was cool to watch. So there ya have it.

Is it? I’d classify The Fried Egg that way, but not NLU. I still think NLU caters to a broader audience. NLU dips into the GCA waters from time to time, but its not their bread and butter, and not really what they are known for.

I think it goes “If you have 2 putters in the bag, then you’re probably Adam Scott at the PGA Championship.”

I mean, compared to EAL, yes, way more catered to the golf nerds. Maybe I’m just too deep in NLU #content so I notice more but almost every video touches on some of the following; history of the course, the architect, why it’s strategically good, maybe some width and angles dirty talk, some course conditioning talk, etc.

Sure, The Fried Egg takes it to another level but I’d say the spectrum is something like…

(Golf Nerd) The Fried Egg-------NLU-------EAL(Not a Golf Nerd)

So yes, you are right that NLU caters to a broader audience but they also make sure to have enough for the golf nerds. That’s probably why they are so successful.

Yea they’ll have Gil Hanse on a pod and then post a video of @djpie getting humiliated by Norman Xiong, then they’ll say that Amanda Balionis only has a job because of her boobs.

I think they cast a wide net, from Fried Egg to Barstool.

I enjoy both NLU and Erik Anders Lang both have different slants on this great game ,they can come over here and make there official or unofficial guides to Scotland but at the end of the day if you want to know about Scotland ask a Scotsman.

It’s surreal to be lectured on what we, the viewers, need in order to enjoy golf content.

People that think NLU is targeted narrowly at GCA nerds don’t know the lineage of NLU - the dirty little secret is that NLU’s start was more Barstool than it was Golf Club Atlas.

I’m telling you what I think is essential to a video. I’m not telling you what you need to enjoy it. It’s very clear on YouTube that content doesn’t need to have significant substance for it to be enjoyed and viewed (see Holics, Golf).

To be clear, I do not think this at all. I simply was comparing EAL to NLU. In that vacuum only, yes, NLU would skew towards the golf nerds.

And let’s be honest, the entire Tourist Sauce series is mostly for the golf nerds. You have to be a bit of a golf nerd to entertain the idea of flying across an ocean just to play golf for a week.

Agree.

I think Erik is a really cool & passionate guy but his newer podcast & YouTube content looks a bit too much filler and less killer.

There is a bit of story telling with regards to the history of Western Gailes, but there is a tonne of background info on Irvine, the proximity to Glasgow, and that stretch of land with an immense collection of golfing coastline that would help the content immensely.

Damn shots fired.

Golfholics really isn’t that bad. EAL is solid. Just because its not your cup of tea, doesn’t mean it lacks substance. Do they constantly bash NLU or something? This all seems to be coming out of nowhere.

Refugees, relax. Opinions can be given without “shots being fired” or making it personal.

And I don’t find NLU to be remotely similar to Barstool in their early days or today, except that there was some levity and comedy included amongst the hot takes and twitter jabs. As far as actual golf is concerned I found and find them night and day.

Also, nothing is set and stone and can evolve for better or worse, including our own opinions. Ever find that some of your friendships strengthen or drift apart? Or something you once loved you now hate (like the NFL) or vice versa.

Ah, the internet.

This hits my point home harder than I did. It’s not worth arguing better/worse Golf Internet Videos, the substantive merit of which is largely dependent upon the viewer’s purpose for watching it in the first place.

Don’t want to speak for Soly but I’m sure it’s infuriating to pour hours of time, energy and resources into a production like Tourist Sauce, then look at the views and subscriber counts for Golfholics, who put way less effort into their post-production. I’m sure it feels like an unfair game at times.
