Tourist Sauce, Ireland

There’s a thread for that! Might want to drop @leric90 a line.

No… it was a good joke.

Folks, Laz called me to apologize.

He should start working on his Refugee of the year acceptance speech.

Careful throwing that phrase around right now with the upcoming Duel to the Death just a few weeks away in Cincinnati.

The difference is that I’m not asking how you feel politically - I’m asking you how the course was - and the other elements like bars, restaurants, local area since that will actually matter if anyone were to make a trip there. Your feelings on politics or political figures are not right or wrong and really don’t have a bearing on what the golf is like - particularly to anyone else. If you were to visit an area or golf course and say hey the golf was fine, the bars and food options are limited and the food maybe wasn’t anything to write home about but the hotel/accommodations were top notch, all of those elements would impact just about anyone going to the area on a trip. Your take on if you like the owner due to their political beliefs (which largely don’t have anything to do with the sport you’re playing or how the course you’re visiting plays) doesn’t really impact anyone else since its personal to just you. Others may agree with your leanings but its a personal feeling that has no real bearing on the trip, the course or the area in reality to any one random person. I would say the exact same thing to you if you had brought in pro-Trump political elements that didn’t have anything to do with the course/golf/rest of your content (i.e., making a positive comment about a wall on the course). As I mentioned before, NLU’s commentary regarding Trump’s course in Abeerden, Scotland was terrific - and most importantly - relevant to what you were talking about regarding the possibility of Coul Links actually happening. That was part of the story and you all didn’t get personal regarding it.

I am glad that Americans have the freedom to choose whatever they want on the political spectrum. It truly is what makes our country great. To me, at the end of the day its more about what do you want your company/channel/content to be. If you want it to be golf focused and highlight the great stories that exist around it or are you trying to push a political narrative on to others. 99% of the stuff I’ve seen you all make is the former with this lone element being an outlier, which makes me question why you took the approach that you did. Obviously, its your content and you can do whatever the hell you want which is totally fine, but the reaction from the general public will be much different. It is my perception that the world isn’t looking for more politically driven content - particularly where its not being sought out specifically. There is a myriad of sources for that content by people who make it a passion or outright business to be involved in the complexities that is politics (on both sides). To allow your golf content to be overridden by fly-by political takes/perspectives lowers the level of your content and brings it to open to criticism. For example, NLU went to Abu Dhabi a few years ago for a BMW event. Why didn’t NLU find it relevant to discuss political elements like Abu Dhabi’s oppression of women and those in the LBGT community while NLU was there? Although it didn’t have anything to do with the event that you went to - it’s kind of the elephant in the room regarding what happens there and elsewhere in the middle east. Cherry picking which political elements you want to take on may bring up healthy criticism from those who aren’t really looking for you to take on politics within your content to begin with and are just happy to watch/listen to what you have to say about golf and not the rest of the world.

Either way, I’m going to move on. I’ve said my piece and will just look forward to watching this weeks installment and the rest of NLU’s journey through Ireland…and probably re-watch TS Scotland for the 16th time. Looking forward to the next level of ideas that I’m sure NLU is already working on.

Please, just stop.

Is this seriously the hill you want to die on? Just enjoy the golf and the scenery of the places they are filming. Watch it muted for all I care but this shtick is getting old

You’re not asking them anything, you’re responding to content that they’ve made for a general audience for free. The idea that you can assert any measure of control over their message because it makes you personally uncomfortable—especially criticism as ridiculously benign as what they offered in the episode—is so egoistic that it boggles the mind.

They’re making these videos and content for lots and lots of people, and most of them aren’t you. Kindly do move on (though I have a feeling that you won’t).

STATEMENT FROM CAMP VERSALLES

Um, it’s been a tough, tough few days. At the advice of my attorney I can’t get into all of that online right now. I have certainly made some missteps here the last few days. I regret one of them.

Elin, I mean @swade, and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As Swade pointed out to me, my real apology to him will not come in the form of words. It will come from my behavior over time. We have a lot to discuss. However, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us.

As I mentioned to @swade, the release of the sex tape titled “Tourist Sauce Ireland episode 2, Lahinch” has me eyeing various avenues of fundraising to get to the No Laying Up Scotland excursion next April. Consider this my goal over the next 30 days.

Fear not, Refuge. I will come out of this struggle a better person. I will remain true to self in my best and worst moments. Our creator made us all perfect, yet we are nothing if not flawed.

I will never retreat to the comfy yet cowardly world of anonymity where so many of my detractors live. I aim to have an incredible 4th quarter here at work which will facilitate the upcoming trip to Scotland so I can meet even more people from this outstanding community.

Yours, in #TheTCWay,
Lazstradamus

Stop trying to dictate the content. What you want out of the content only matters to you. These guys have built a brand and a following precisely because they are real people going on golf trips. Read the yardage book if only you want a report on the course.

Your argument may as well be, ‘I didn’t come here to learn about how to pull a pint of Guinness’ or ‘A 57 year caddy at Lahinch doesn’t matter to us, because he’ll be retired by the time this airs, so we won’t get to use his green reading!’

This isn’t just about the golf courses.

How many times do these people have to tell you that the course was “meh” for you to understand that?

It’s a freaking Greg Norman design. “Meh” is a win.

Well…I would counter that if they didn’t discuss the elephant in the room that is President Trump (still in office as of 11:51am PST 10/8/2019) that would be really sloppy. Like incredibly sloppy. When I learned they were going, I was pretty vocal- “how could you guys support a Trump property” etc, etc. So in my opinion, they kind of had to cover it. Not only because of how polarizing Trump is to our country (and the human race, generally) but also because Trump has totally fucked up a few golf courses. Had he not been president, there still would likely have been an “okay, so we played a Trump” slice to the show. Agreed?

I can appreciate your perspective. It’s thought out if a little black and white. It reeks a little of “stick to sports” (which begs the question “why stick to sports?”) but that’s your take and I appreciate your sharing.

If I see an uptick of Laz items on the Silk Road, I’m taking it as a sign we’ll see you in Scotland.

Edit: Dibs on the Ryder Cup headcover.

Episode 2 was possibly the best tourist sauce yet. Course looked incredibly fun and it was nice to have the boys in a good mood. Next week looks good too.

Reminds me of people (ie @Soly) talking about courses that are on the ocean. You can’t take the ocean out of describing the golf course and it, therefore, has a profound affect on your “rating” of the course. You can’t play a course owned by Trump and not have Trump be part of the conversation, and let’s be honest, he wouldn’t want it any other way. Otherwise he wouldn’t plaster his name on everything from toilet paper rolls to water bottles.

The 6th is NSFW or any other time frankly, sweet Jesus
