has anyone ever seen Jon Daly and q anon in the same room? Seems pretty sus
JBors was on fire in the live chat
this made me chuckle. Hawtree had everything to do with me not loving the course (and Norman to a certain extent).
Did you guys try to get Guinness as a sponsor at some point in the process of this trip? From the planning to the post process editing? Just curious⦠@Tron @djpie @MerchCzar @Soly @Randy
This episode was up there with the best tourist sauce episodes! Big Randy for US senior AM 2035 if he keeps making those birds!
Iām holding off on watching until I get home and can stream it on my TV. Watching on a computer or phone doesnāt do this series any justice.
Just finished Episode 1, and it was awesome.
To touch on āthe elephant in the roomā we all live in a grey world. Black and white is fantasy. The crew nailed the Trump impact. Doonbeg was in a āany port in a stormā situation financially, and the Trump brand came in. Could have been a lot of groups, but it was Trump. The village of Doonebeg would do anything to keep the course going. Totally understandable. To quote peaky blinders, āweāre all whores, we just sell different parts of ourselves.ā
In summary, when @djpie was saying āI would never spend a dollar in support of that guyā thatās pretty much where Iām at. Have turned down about 6 invites to Trump national Los Angeles and will continue to keep turning them downā¦butā¦(here comes the grey area) I am not against the club supporting the people.
There are a few Cubans on The Refuge and they made relate to this. In the 1990s and early 2000s, there was a bit of a backlash against exiles sending money back to Cuba via a Canadian Western Union) because all of that money āended up in the pockets of the tyrant Fidel Castroā but when I went in 1999 and saw the US dollar as the life blood of the black market I was ALL IN on sending US dollars to Cuba. Very similarly to the āI would never spend a dollar to support that guyā but in a much deeper and gross scenario.
ON TO EPISODE 2!!!
The worst part of these videos is when they end and I stare out into the cubicle farm knowing Iām still here for another 5 hours
@HashtagChad doesnāt have an obnoxious southern drawl??? I. Am. Out.
Just to put a cherry on top of @MauiSurfās rambling, below is a screenshot of the Doakitoās feelings on the course (keeping in mind that this was before Hawtree butchered softened many of the greens with formulaic stuff that repeated every few holes and before they lost a couple green sites to erosion/storms). My feelings on the course were solely due to Greg Norman and Hawtree. Iāll also offer that the greens were only a notch above those we saw at the Doolin Pitch & Putt - very shaggy. Lastly, I donāt really give a shit who owns the course and this is how I felt - the hospitality was great (legendary restaurant/bar right off the 18th hole and the accommodations were exceptional - Trump has more to do with those than the golf course). The routing was uneven and had some flourishes that were fantastic (and we showed). Weāll also have some written content around each episode once the new website is live, which will flesh out more of the technical elements of each course.
Feel free to take a look at reviews from well before Trump bought the place: https://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-course/trump-international-golf-links-doonbeg?page=2
To recap: we were extremely jet lagged by the time we got out there, Randy was put-off by Trump owning the place. DJ found a silver lining with the local angle, Soly viewed it in the context of his experience at Trumpās course in Scotland, Neil didnāt really bat an eye, and I was probably the most critical of the golf course, which is interesting because I fall on that side of the spectrum where I donāt really care who owns the course and how it aligns with my political views.
I think we can tie a bow on this one. Weāre on to Cincinnati.
Bury me at Lahinch next to Huey.
Damn, thatās a killer final sentence from Doak about Norman.
Iāll stick up for @yungloudancolin on this one. Prior to going I really didnāt know a whole lot about Irish golf, how it differed from Scotland/England, and why I should go play a bunch of courses that are newer and have largely shittier weather. Totally valid point. Sometimes certain regions are a blind spot for people, which is part of the fun! If we all knew everything about everywhere it would suck and we wouldnāt be doing these videos.
@Soly is now my hero.
Wait a sec⦠will royalty be coming to witness @Lazstradamusā dispatching of @anon26814599?
Whoa.
What song starts at 5:57 mark? Need that stat.
Bill Belicheck reference going way over everyoneās heads
Can you imagine some 16-handicap investment banking bro who is like 15 over through 4 holes asking Huey where the pin is on The Dell?
āSo whereās the pin?ā
