Third Chile Pepper Classic | Albuquerque NM | April 27, 2025

Greetings from the Land of EnchantmentTM! Dry Heat GC will be hosting our final event of the '24-25 season this April 27 across both University of New Mexico golf courses. The Championship/South course stretches out to nearly 7600 yards to challenge today’s athletes and features what we believe to be the toughest par 3, 4, and 5 holes in the metro area; and they all happen to be in a row (#s 8 through 10). The front nine features pretty straightforward championship style golf before giving way to some more fun decisions on the closing nine. Some local knowledge will help, and we will divide our our people around so everyone has a sherpa. The charming 9 hole North course is our city’s hidden gem tucked just north and west of campus and the university hospital. It is a quiet and brisk walk highlighted by small greens, a real neighborhood feel, and an elite three hole closing stretch.

Competition format will be Quota in the morning round (08:00 lead group) at the South course. After a break for lunch, morning round standings will determine seeding for the afternoon singles matches at the North course (~3:00 pm lead group). Additional golf will of course be coordinated on Saturday and/or Monday.

Cost for golf will be $75/95 (walk/ride) plus $10 advance booking fee for UNM South, and around $25 for UNM North. Payment not due until we are at the course. I’ll make our initial booking on Monday 3/31 based on signups at that time and I will be able to add afterwards if needed.

Will there be some sort of chile pepper integration into this event?

Loser of previous match play hole must take a dab of local hot sauce before they tee off?

Spice it up a little, if you will

What is the consensus for where we should play that Saturday afternoon? Looks like there is a foursome signed up for extra golf: myself, @ComfyDouble @Jpop942 & @TheSwimmingPool.

I can book something, but am very out of the loop on ABQ courses.

Looking forward to it!

Also very out of the loop for ABQ golf but open to whatever @RolandOfGilead or @Breakfast_Ball_Hite recommend.

My recommendation would be Sandia,Twin Warriors, Paradise Hills, in that order. It was a very tough winter for most of the ABQ golf scene. All the city courses and Santa Ana are just torched. I doubt the grass will be back by the end of the month.

Sandia always has great conditions, it’s a really fun resort desert course with maybe my favorite four hole stretch in the city on the front 9. Carts only so it will save your legs as well

Twin Warriors has incredible views and difficulty golf. It’s a championship style resort course that was built to hold tournaments. I really enjoy the challenge and it’s a bad ass golf course. Again carts only out there. It’s pretty far out from the city center so I would expect a 30+ minute drive.

Paradise hills is a privately owned public course on the NW side of Albuquerque. It’s an old parkland style track that it mostly flat with tree lined fairways. Very sneaky difficult driving course with deceptively tough greens. Really good par 3s and par 5s IMO. Also my home course here in Albuquerque. They have put a lot of money into the course over the last 2.5 years and they watered all winter so the grass is coming back strong.

Hello friends!

I booked a 2:00 tee time at Twin Warriors for Saturday. Looked like Sandia was having an event and was completely booked up. I was also not able to book more than one tee time due to Twin Warriors policy so someone will have to snag the second one (1:48 or 2:12).

Looks like we have 5? folks signed up for Saturday afternoon golf.

Looking forward to it!

On a similar note, I was thinking about Monday golf this morning as well. I see a few of us are yeses of maybes. Any movement there? Otherwise, I can book something if we still have a squad for Monday.

Count me out of Monday unfortunately. I have to drop my wife’s car off at the shop first thing and then I have my daughters passport appointment at 11am :(.

I need to drop out of Monday’s round as well. @BK34 and @fore_ryan any updates?

I’m going to book our Sunday rounds at midnight tonight to save us locals come cheddar. Shooting for 3 threesomes in the 8:00 hour.

Count me out as well.

Did you book all 4 spots at 2pm? If we have 5, that means someone will be a single… also, just checked that there are only the 1:36 (two spots) and 2:48 (4 spots) left…

Unfortunately they would only allow me to book one foursome.

Is there a couple spots open in one of the adjacent ones? We could split 3 & 2.

We could also probably book adjacent tee times at the UNM course for a preview?

Up to the group!

No other spots available in the adjoining times. I’d be game to loop UNM twice. Get a preview, and it’s a great course. Looks like there are plenty of openings starting at 2. If you book one spot for 3 I’ll book the second for 2. Let me know what time you snag
