@TheBigMan Tells All AMA

To @Sarah point, it can be difficult to sift through a thread of hundreds of posts looking for relevant info, so merging a thread into an existing thread might help a bit but not solve the problem. Could a thread of threads be more useful ala Reddit? As the community grows it can, but not always, become more daunting for a newbie to #getinvolved or ask questions. The duplicate thread shouldn’t necessarily be hated on, but there could be a better way.

Discussion in the underlying software ( a - we aren’t the first people to talk about this, and b - it may not be nearly as easy as we imagine it to be, even if we unanimously decide it’s a good thing)

I get it, but it drives me up the wall to see the 15th thread dedicated to Bandon trips when the first 2-3 would suffice.

Maybe we ask Randy to film a Refuge tutorial that’s required viewing before being allowed to create new threads. He could wear a Mr. Rogers jacket and use his most soothing voice to implore new Refugees to make the search bar their friend.

I vote we have only 3 refuges threads total

  1. Games
  2. Golf
  3. Everything else

Lean into the chaos.

there is no generally acceptable method to merge two or more conversations without bastardising the merged conversations in some way.

Might be the best part of that post. Every thread/conversation here gets bastardized at some point, that certainly wouldn’t be much of a change.

Maybe we just need 2:

  1. Food
  2. Everything else.

As the person who started the new Bandon thread, I can understand how it may annoy some people if they know there are other threads about the topic but as this is the first time I’ve ever posted, my first message board of this type, and my third day on the site, I honestly didn’t even think about a search button. That’s on me but I posted in the travel forum about a travel topic, I don’t see what the big deal is.

In the future I will search for a topic before posting, but the idea that I have to wade through 500-1k posts, half of which are irrelevant attempts at humor from 2 years ago to find what I’m looking is a waste of time.

I do agree that a tutorial may be necessary for new members since I didn’t know the guidelines and this seems bothers some people so much. I would recommend that if so many of you are so aghast at new people asking questions that have already been answered pinning a summary post with all the relevant information regarding big travel destinations on the top of the forum. I appreciated what @anon68983737 did on my post, showing me all of the threads.

I understand that older members of this board are probably getting annoyed by the new people joining the refuge bc of the nest membership but I’d think there’s a better way to show new members the ropes than by acting like were committing some cardinal sin by duplicate posting.

I’ve listened to the no laying up guys since the beginning and I’m excited to join the community, I promise I’ll learn the ropes but until then give us new guys a little leeway a duplicate post isn’t going to kill anyone.

Just kidding with you. In all seriousness, it’s great you joined and it’s awesome that so many have been jumping onboard with the Nest. My entire thing with the existing threads is there’s no reason to wade through every single post; just find a thread on the topic and start posting in there.

I’m not the board police and I haven’t been here since the beginning, so I’m not trying to regulate anyone. Hopefully you enjoy the Refuge and get as much out of it as I have over the last 6 months. Cheers!

Hey man no one is annoyed with you about the duplicate post. Frankly, we’re happy you’re here!

The “search bar” fiasco is half-meme half-truth at this point. You’ll pick up the ropes quickly. Just don’t get discouraged, no matter what happens. (Also, usually when someone gets @3wiggle -d, the relevant post is quoted.)

Let’s get to know you… where ya from?

1000x this. I’d be shocked if anyone is actually mad that there’s another golfer passionate enough to both be on The Refuge AND join The Nest, AND actively participate in the discourse they can GTFO. Ask your questions, create your threads, people be people.

I am still shooketh by that list.

As someone who has been @3wiggle 'ed I can tell you that the “tutorial” is a cold backhand in the face…maybe a few. But learning that everything is in good fun (and good content) is the only lesson you need.

Ribeyes are more overrated than Brooks Koepka: My Column

Glad you’re here and we all hope you stay and enjoy the madness as much as we do.

Also, just expect @anon26814599 to be the first response to any thread you start, likely with a linked post somewhere on The Refuge that might have some semblance of relevance to the topic you’re posting about. It’s a joke in and of itself at this point.

Sorry, Nandy.

Lastly, what’s your favorite cut of beef?

I have yet to meet you in person and I’m sure you’re a great gui…but…your take on ribeyes is getting dangerously close to being reported to the Department of Homeland Security for subversive activities.
