The Refuge Feedback Thread

Yeah, you cracked the case, Sherlock

@Randy Surely I’m at least a “regular” by now? Or do I not fall into the right ideological quadrant for such a privilege?

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I think being a Nest member gets you “Regular” status. Or as a non-Nest member, you have to maintain the activity level outlined here. Looks like it goes off your activity for the past 100 days.

I clearly fit the criteria for “member.”

I’m not even allowed to ignore people!!

:man_shrugging: Above my pay grade.
Hope they get it sorted out!

A couple of folks have run into this that had some overrides in their hosts file. The Refuge CDN is under nolayingup.dev, so before .dev became a TLD people used it for local development stuff. If you see images on your phone, but not your computer, for example, that’s a strong indicator that’s what’s going on.

See if this link helps at all.

@McSchvantz Could you also fix the glitch that has me as a “ basic user”? I have the qualifications for
“member”, don’t know what’s going on here, hope it’s not nefarious. I’m not allowed to ignore people…

It’s not a glitch, I locked you to TL1 at least a year and a half ago. Unlocked, ignore to your heart’s content.

Thanks. That was a little confusing for my tech level. My issue is more not showing up in the phone.

I am just going to say it.

There are a lot of real people from all over the world on the refuge. We make friends here, we arrange trips, we talk on whatsapp, we play golf together, and we post here. My face is my avatar and @The_Cad_Says keeps calling me by my name (dont ban him for it please).

We do not want to be associated with the garbage ED and other trolls are coming up with. This needs to be a sensible, civil, humanistic forum, not one which sinks to the depths of populistic politics and tribal online behaviour.

Please make an effort to keep the refuge as a refuge. Otherwise I am out, and so will be many others.

@Middle-agestMember Please explain to why I need to be removed from this forum. Actually provide details instead of just lazily describing me as a troll who practices populist politics.

If there is any tribal behavior going on, it’s from other Refugees, not me. You need to look up the meaning of the word.

This post certainly comes across as you just wanting to censor and remove any opposing opinions.

I haven’t said anything offensive or engaged in any behavior that warrants any form of punishment. I’m not doxxing, I haven’t used hate speech, I’m not posting obscene material.

So what is it? You clearly are someone who gets off on the idea of suppressing dissent.

Let laissez-fairs rule. I’m grateful that I don’t have the ideological intolerance towards others with different viewpoints that you harbor. It’s quite fascist.

Enjoy your weekend.

@Randy @McSchvantz

A mistake has been made regarding my original account.

I didn’t create a burner. Please message me with any info that suggests I did. I can assure you I did not.

Message me and I can clear everything up.

Thanks,

Eric

@McSchvantz any idea what’s up with twitter not embedding properly?

For reference using one of the best tweets ever:

Hmm…good question. I’m not sure, seems like it might be a Discourse bug, I’ll look into it.

That is a hell of a tweet. Excellent question. The boys being back in town is a universal experience (for the boys). Also, why is there not a “the girls are back in town” song?

For some reason I always thought this song was about baseball - maybe I got it mixed up with Boys of Summer

at bruce bochy’s retirement ceremony the giants played the boys are back in town over & over when they were introducing all the old players coming back so it’s kind of been stuck in my head since then

I absolutely love Thin Lizzy. Jailbreak is front to back gold.

oh hell ya

At the 2012 Republican National Convention, the song was used to introduce Vice-Presidential candidate Paul Ryan on stage. This unauthorized use of the song caused controversy. Both Lynott’s mother, Philomena Lynott, and Thin Lizzy lead guitarist Gorham criticized its use, suggesting that Lynott would not have wanted his music used for any political use, including endorsing politicians, and furthermore would likely have objected to the policies of Ryan and his running mate Mitt Romney.

I just wanted to say that this place has been very civil and peaceful for the last couple of weeks. @Randy, @Tron, @MerchCzar, @Soly, and @djpie I know you guys have had to make some not so fun decisions lately, but I just want you to know that at least I appreciate your willingness to let things flow when they can, but to step in when needed. This has been a mentally tough week for a lot of people and I think it’s great that it has been so calm and level headed around here with virtually no childish arguing. Keep up the great work.
