I had originally said 5/15. I think that’s too late. South Carolina currently isn’t allowing gatherings of more than 3. We currently wouldn’t be able to gather in the club house to eat. I just don’t see how this happens and is as fun an event without being able to do more than just play golf and leave. Going to talk to the course this week, look at other dates and will make a decision probably this week.
Is it possible these things are lifted be then yes, but I’d probably feel more comfortable with punting it down the road and making sure the event is as fun and able to happen as normal as possible.
I am an insane college football fan. Dad was a high school coach. I was a mediocre high school player on a great team (#3 in nation in USA Today for a while). Went to Alabama summer recruit’s camp when Ray Perkins was the coach. Maybe the lowest recruited guy there - they wanted some guys from my team. I tried to walk on at Navy, tore my IT Band tendon before I ever got close to making it. No visions of grandeur, I was thinking I could be the last guy on the team, but instead was in and out of Bethesda Naval Hospital a couple of times. I still love football. Bama & Navy.
AGC website is jacked up right now, so I can’t check for this year’s dates, but they typically host the City of Aiken Amateur Championship around mid September. So at least a couple weeks before that, the place is in primo shape. Could still work out perfectly if we have to move to the end of summer.
I’m there with you, I hope they have. I didn’t think there would be a way things weren’t back to normal until recently and Kirk H and others have said they don’t have college or NFL will play this year.
The writing has been on the wall for some time but I feel confident in making the decision to postpone this event. I am working with my contact at the club to secure a new date. Come hell or high water this event will happen in 2020. My hope is to have this event before a hopefully still happening football season begins. I understand there are other refuge events in August/September. There may be some over lap but I plan to do all I can to at least not over lap with the event in Georgia. I also know there’s probably some over lap with our group and The Thoroughbred put on by Andy. I’m not trying to pull from his event in any way and have reached out to try and have a respective time distance between events. I’ve cancelled my Airbnb and reached out to the host that I hope myself or someone else can utilize her place when we reschedule. When I have a new confirmed date I will post here. It is my opinion that the google sheet sign ups will transfer to the new date and alternates on the list will receive first right of refusal to any spots that open up. So if you’re interested in joining this event should spots open then add your name as an alternate. Work on the logo will continue and I can’t wait to see all you people beautiful people soon.
Just cancelled the AirBNB. Look forward to staying there whenever this gets rearranged! Props to you for taking this decision now. Can’t wait to get down there & play.
