The Op3-'n:10k or bust (Part 1)

Never played it but I’d love to try!

Best gui on the refuge. Heart of gold, hands of stone. He once took a lesson and was told to seek out sports that use your feet.

He’s basically Canadian because he loves hockey and always apologizes even if he’s in the right. Probably spells honour with a u even though Clippy insists incessantly that he’s wrong.

Would do anything for complete strangers in need and is going to put his thumb on the scale so two crazy Canucks get a spot in the op3’n.

Fun fact: super close friends with @scottyrp4 and @cfrench, but just doesn’t know it yet.

Scotty basically nailed it but I would add the following (only because I want you both to donate):

Battis The Man: The absolute kindest human being I’ve ever met. So considerate of others, in fact, that it is often to his detriment. As EJ and I have discussed, we know we’re assholes, but he makes us look much worse. He’s so nice it makes me mad sometimes. Legitimately. Fantastic human and best friend. Tremendous father, husband, brother, confidant, wartime consigliere. I want to be like him when I grow up. We should all strive to be more like him.

Battis The Golfer: Cares about others’ enjoyment, but often (at least in competition) takes his own game too seriously to allow himself to have fun. It may be his one actual flaw. Has historically lacked confidence on the golf course - is now mushing driver which is both wonderful and jarring and has recently acquired his grail putter and is rolling the absolute fuck out of the rock. If he can actually log some rounds this year, I expect the index to drop a couple points. A true “the guy she tells you not to worry about” situation. Also does not give a fuck what you think about his Miura CBs.

I’m reviewing all the scouting reports so far. There is no qualifying, only captains picks!

Favorite course in WI. This is hard. I’ll go with Blue Mound. Raynor is my guy. This might change if I get back to Milwaukee CC after the work is done.

On the public side, Erin Hills is pretty damn phenomenal.

Because @scottyrp4 and @bignanski are far far too kind, I doubled the amount.

Got dusty in my office

Orders pizza on all you can eat fish and broasted chicken night. But we’re really splitting hairs at this point.

If you haven’t had a pizza sandwich topped with fish and chicken are you even living?

I vowed to order the fish this year if we go back and they have vinegar available.

Not at HH though, the pizza there is actually legit

I think it’d be insightful to hear everyone’s answer to this question:

What is your strategy and club selection off the tee on 1 on the Links.

250 to the fat part of the fairway, but you’ll have 160 in with the grass face in play.

270 taking the aggressive line to nestle it up to the bunker with 110 in and a nice angle, but the fescue beckons.

Conservative line 260+ probably puts you through the fairway with 150 in and that grass face staring at you.

A fascinating opener and things only get better.

What tees are we playing this shindig from?

Because it sounds like I need to magically find 40 yards in the next 7 months.

As others will attest, it’s take it right at the green and swing hard. Ball clears the shit nearly every time and it’s thin enough I can find it if it doesn’t. Give you a flip wedge into the green and can run it up if you really wanted to from over there.

Disclaimer, I swing too fucking hard and ball go far sometimes.

Well, my friend, wanna know the best part about how I “run” the Ope?

Do whatever the fuck makes you happy! Play every hole from 150 for all I care. Regional competitors are governed by different rules, but we won’t let the 16 of them ruin the fun the rest of us get to have.

The Ope is and always will be about getting together in Wisconsin for at least 2 days of shenanigans with our internet friends who have largely become real life friends. We also try to raise some money for a cause. You pay the entry fee, I honestly don’t care if you just show up to ride around in a cart and drink.

Oh, second disclaimer, this all remains true so long as I’m the one running it.

It will be weird having matches with real consequences this year, but glad that this is still the case for the rest of us!
