The Op3-'n:10k or bust (Part 1)

This is a good take. The renovations have been very well done.

I’m getting tired of the homes, but it’s not too distracting yet.

As much as I want this to continue, EJ did ask (twice) that it be brought to the contrarian takes thread.

Woodlands is nothing special, typical in the trees golf course but not crazy narrow in most spots and a few cool holes. I will support what has been said prior though the hate has probably gone too far.

Links plays nothing like a links course. More of a Dye adjacent course, big fairways and landing areas but if you take the more aggressive lines off the tee and pull it off you have much better angles in. If the fescue is cut down like it was last year the course is far less harsh.

Bunkers are very much true hazards. Very deep in most spots and most greens are all elevated so it’s very much a second shot golf course.

Best experienced as a 28some, may run out of things like Moon Man, septic tanks need work, 10/10 would recommend

And yet @StrokesGainedDrunk hasn’t done so.

This is probably the best Woodlands take I have seen

I will say it though hole 3 is terrible

Favorite holes at Woodlands?

I lean towards 5 & 10, no other reason than I like the tee shots.

5 and 6 are good. Otherwise I like 16 and 18 with the new green

18 is awesome. 13 I really like. 1 is a great starting hole

The new green on 18 is freaking sick too. I’m a sucker for a “cliffside” par 3 so I also really like 3. Honestly 2 is a cool-ass hole too.

2, 3 and 16 are all pretty good as well. 1-2-3 is a solid opening punch.

I like 5 a lot. If gives people choices off the tee and I love choices.

I think 16 is a cool tee shot. Probably my favorite par 3 on the woodlands despite the home.

Given the format is now Links - Woodlands - Woodlands - Links we can finally put those Adirondack chairs behind 18 Woodlands to use!

The more I think about, I think this is what I like about the woodlands most.

A lot of holes give you choices for tee shots in terms of club selection and how you can play it.

I think I used my driver 5-6 times. Not because I couldn’t but because it wasn’t a forced choice

I think what is so great and unique about Lawsonia as a whole is the 2 wildly different courses. Woodlands feels like, well woodlands. It’s got a lot of NorthWoods bones to it, winding around the elevation, lake at your back and in front of you a lot, the whole shebang. Match that up with the Maximalism and wide open corridors of the Links where most holes are in view from each hole, and you have truly a match made in heaven.

Is this heaven? No, it’s Lawsonia

I’d like to subscribe to your course takes newsletter.

No one wants that, just follow me around on here, you’ll get enough of my course ramblings to get sick of me quick.

I enjoy talking about golf courses with you. We see the a lot of courses/holes differently but I love hearing your perspective on things. :blue_heart:
