Phil may have bequeathed golf’s “Big Ern” status to Bryson.

I still can’t stop chuckling about Jo Seal.
I keep envisioning Jo Seal as, well, a seal - like the long lost brother of SF Giant’s mascost Lou Seal!
The Jackson Koivun Era has officially begun after his first PGA Tour victory at the 3M Open. We have a lot to discuss from across the world of golf this week: Koivun's breakthrough, Jenny Shin's impressive win at the Women's Scottish Open, LIV JCB and Big Tommy Morrison's first professional victory at the Korn Ferry Tour's Evans Scholars Invitational. Plus, Alex Fitzpatrick joins the show (59:24) to chat about his season, earning his PGA Tour card, his journey through professional golf, and plenty more.
Soly, D.J. and TC start tonight’s pod with the action at the Wyndham, where Michael Brennan is the champ in Greensboro - the former Wake Forest standout winning at Sedgefield for his second career PGA Tour title. After some thoughts on the Greensboro tournament’s future, we look at the finalized playoff field and who’ll be missing next week in Memphis. Plus an updated Fedora Five from TC and some assorted news and notes including Blockie’s eventful Sunday. Then it’s on to LIV Bedminster with Neil popping in for some on-the-ground reporting in addition to our reaction to the LIV financing news from earlier this week. We close with a recap of Asterisk Talley’s win at the US Women’s Am, Solheim Cup Euro captain’s picks, a look at the current Presidents Cup standings and more.
Neil with the empty zoo comp for LIV New Jersey killed me.
Ray J-Kim K sex tape references from 19 years ago in the first 15 minutes of the ep are the kind of content I listen to this pod for.
I had wondered why Neil’s 13 major prediction for Rose Zhang wasn’t talked about more. I remember listening when the episode dropped and almost driving off the road.
I have this nagging feeling that the US government is going to end up owning a stake in LIV Golf. It’s not totally out of the question.
“Strokes gained could play in that category” nearly sent me into a coma. The hardest I’ve laughed at anything in a while
I wanted to give a shoutout to 17-year-old Anna Huang of Canada, who won the PIF London Championship on the LET. Charley Hull holed from long range on 16 to take the lead, then 4-putted 17, making way for Huang to eagle 18 for the 4th day in a row to take the trophy. Well played.
Soly butchered the pronunciation of her last name so bad that I don’t even remember what it was.
The LPGA has a pronunciation guide for all player names [I know Huang is LET – they do not have a guide that I could find]. The fact that these guys still laugh their way through mispronunciations and claim “I’ll never get it” lends just the sort of unserious air that counteracts what little inroads they hope to make with male listeners who don’t normally follow the women’s game. You have press credentials, either act like it, or don’t cover the women’s game. You just hit 1000 episodes. If you laid out a plan for the next thousand, I hope it includes taking the LPGA much more seriously.
Huang is a pretty common last name
Yep
