Amazing!! So much fun to watch

Re: the commercialization etc… there was a moment on Sunday and I’m too lazy to go back and find it, but Nance was like:

“In 1934, this hallowed tournament began on CBS radio” (great vibes of thinking of people, pre WWII, huddled around a radio set in their living room)

“Then, in 1956, we brought you the first televised coverage, and in 1964 (or whatever) that coverage came to you for the first time in color, to capture the majesty of this beautiful place.” (Lovely images of azaleas in bloom, etc)

“We brought you every one of Jack’s epic wins, the meltdowns, the glory, every heartbreak, every destiny fulfilled.” (Ok)

“And now, as of last year, we’re bringing you streaming on Paramount Plus.” (Double-take, barf, bad taste still in my mouth)

The only thing that might redeem this travesty in my mind is imaging Nance covering the microphone and turning to production and saying “if you ever make me say a line like that again I’m walking… we should be ashamed of ourselves.”

Still… nothing like it. Great Masters, great recap fellas.

just a couple shoutouts:

@tron – nailed it with “It is artificial, but it’s fucking great.”

At the masters party we host each year i inevitably start explaining why it’s a special and cool tournament and the best and end up meandering back to how it also is maybe bad for golf and industrial complex, etc. same vibe. both things are true.

@djpie in regards to spieth “imagine how much worse it’d be if he didn’t have greller” got me to spit out my coffee.
