The Extinction at Park Mammoth Golf Club (6/3/23)

In terms of ancillary golf, I’ll probably be looking to get a Friday round in at mammoth and maybe a Sunday round at Gaylord springs outside of Nashville if anyones is interested in either of those.

I really wish I didn’t have to work the second or I would absolutely join you. That’s unfortunately the last business day before we enter a very limited PTO time period, so I’ve got a bad feeling of how hectic it’s gonna be.

Yea I feel that, I could only get away with 1 day off that week otherwise I’d be joining @Flex at Sweetens.

@Tibbs my man… let’s hook you up with something better than this :handshake: my disdain for Gaylord is a well established bit at this point

@Flex a couple @HighCottonClub guys passes scattered throughout the month… @acrid has 4 for Sunday after The Extinction if anyone wants to wake up early on Sunday for the trip south

Haha will happily defer to your expertise on the courses in the area.

If you need to get close to the airport…

  1. Hermitage - President’s Reserve
  2. Hermitage - General’s Retreat
  3. Two Rivers

Hermitage is the opposing resort course to Gaylord for Nashville. While pace of play can be a concern, it’s the best public facility we have to offer in the Nashville metro area. Two Rivers is a decent muni, but at least you’ll get to play 18 holes whereas Gaylord will certainly reroute you for a minor construction project that is sure to add no value to the course.

If you have time to drive between the golf and flight…

  1. The Legacy
  2. Kenny Perry’s
  3. Tennessee Grasslands

The Legacy is probably the best true public course in Middle Tennessee. A Ray Floyd design and host to our season ending event, we have @HighCottonClub members deep at The Legacy and could probably easily accommodate a group to play with you. Kenny Perry’s is tight on the interstate headed back to Nashville. While it isn’t as stunning as Park Mammoth, it has an incredibly fun layout with subtly great architecture — and barns. TN Grasslands is the nicest private facility north of Nashville, and we could work to get you on through either host members or our connections with the staff. TN Grasslands offers the best 36 holes of golf of any course I mentioned, but may be the toughest to get to the airport.

I can’t make it to The Extinction this year but played Park Mammoth this week for the first time and it is by far the best course I’ve played for $45 (cheap weekday, winter rate) Enormous fairways but the greens and bunkers require lots of thought off the tee. Green complexes are world class and even though they’re large they protect par on the course. If you’re on the wrong level it’s a tough 2 putt. If there’s any way you can make it, HCC is gonna host a first class event.

After a slight delay, we are back with the course preview with hole number 3 at Park Mammoth!

The third hole is one of 2 par 5’s on the course and is truly a 3 shot hole from the back tees. Playing uphill off the tee, it plays every bit of its distance. It runs between holes 4 and 8 with 4 offering a very comfy bail out for those who might overcook a draw like myself. After that, you’re left with a blind second shot except for the longest hitters who can reach the top of the hill off the tee and will be able to see the green.

While this hole is long, the green complex is where the fun really begins. The first and second greens are sloped, but manageable. The third green in my opinion is your true welcome to Park Mammoth moment (assuming you avoided the bunker short of two). There are roughly 4 to 5 different tiers on this green with tons of different pin locations. If you get on the wrong tier, a two put is one hell of a result!

3 green can be seen here behind 8 green… and that green complex is so much fun. I’ve already been in the lab with the grounds crew and can’t wait to test these hole locations out before the event

As @Douger23 said, it’s almost certainly a 3 shot hole. While you have the world to miss left, the tee shot is made difficult by bunkers at different yardages… one right where you want to land it on the right side of the fairway, and one on the center/left where your ball will run out if you miss the chute to the upper tiered approach area

This is one of the best golf holes I’ve ever played, I just love it :mammoth:

lol I got a 9 here a week and a half ago, without penalty strokes and hitting the fairway short of the bunker with my drive. Do not top your 3w into the fescue just past the bunker on your second shot, guys!

If you don’t make it to the top tier off the tee but are on the right side of the fairway, what is the line for the second shot if you just want to hit 3 wood as far as you can? Seems like inside the last tree on the right is the best reference point?

So, the guy in my second picture is aimed straight at the green. Basically, just aim straight down the fairway.

I’m not drooling…you’re drooling.

Trust me. We’re all drooling about Park Mammoth at this point.

Anything at or inside that last tree on the right will allow you to definitely find and hit it again, howeva… good luck keeping it on the green to most of the pin locations as you will be above the hole. The better angle to chip/pitch from is down on the left of the green. But again, you cant bomb 3 wood in that area if you are long because you will most definitely lose a ball in the thick stuff just off the path short left of the path! Good luck is all I am saying
