That’s an awesome photo. My buddy took one of a alligator 15 years ago and you could see his reflection in the gators eyes.
How many steps do you typically use in exposure bracketing? Just starting to play with this. I’ve got ± 5 frames. Experimenting with increments of 1-3 stops and merging for hdr in lightroom. Am i on the right track here?
From memory, and I don’t have the camera (an XT3) on me, there’s a function where the camera will blend the photos together. I may be misremembering. If not, lightroom will work. I think start with ± 1 stop and work from there.
Edit, there is a HDR (high dynamic range) mode:
Do you think it’s better/easier to do that in camera or on the computer? I’ve stitched photos together, but I haven’t blended exposures before
From memory again, the output in camera is a Jpeg (I’m likely wrong here) - so it might be a good thing to do as a test shot if you then want to run the more traditional way of exposure bracketing and combining the raw images in LR. I haven’t done it in years, but I remember it being pretty straight forward in LR.
Tapping into the braintrust here.
I’m taking my Nikon D5000 out of mothballs and want to shoot some of my kids’ sports (including indoor). Will an older body like that compromise the effectiveness of a newer 70-200 F2.8 lens like the Tamron SP or Nikon AF-S?
Nope! Not at all. Good glass is good glass and that 70-200 will do just the trick
If you’re ballin’ on a budget, the Tamron or Sigma are great places to start
It can shoot at 4 fps, so should be ok for sports. If you can find a “fast” card that will also help. Low light capabilities are also apparently good (I’ve never owned a Nikon let alone your model). Try it out with a 70-200 f2.8 lens - you’ll probably be surprised with the image quality. You might need to bump up the in camera sharpness (per a review I just read of the D5000).
These lenses aren’t just great for sports, they are incredible portrait lenses and can be used to great effect shooting landscapes. The lens will work on any new models should you upgrade, so if you can get a good deal on one in good nick, then go for it.
SanDisk Extreme Pro fan here. They keep up shooting in RAW at 14fps in full burst.
They’re also usually on sale at the end of the year…
If you’re looking for one lens to “do it all” it’s definitely the 70-200.
Second best in my opinion is a 24-70, but that obviously leans more towards short range and portrait work
Got sent some Peter McKinnon videos to watch on YouTube.
God it makes me want to dive headfirst into photography and go wild. Some wild shit going down.
Join the dark(room) side.
First time playing around with it today. Did 1 stop increments and 5 frames in ae bracketing then HDR merge in lightroom (SO EASY TO DO).
Also I know nothing about any of this, just loved shooting with my old nikon from the 80s when I took a photography class back in hs. Just got back into this so please feel free to offer any advice on how to have better photos
Film has been dropped of. I don’t think the camera has been used in 15 years, so hoping for something special for a mega surprise xmas gift.
Also added batteries to the camera and it works! I can see the light dots on the inside turn to green when light appears to be strong enough on the subject. Hoping to get some film in there and see how the camera works.
Got some awesome lighting today during an E9! Tried to play around a little with the focus on my iPhone and see what happened.
Sports photographers are incredible. Feel like I could have all the access in the world and not catch shots like these.
what camera are you using. Most modern sensors have great DR, so you might want to play with more stops and fewer frames (especially if the train is moving.
Regarding the shot above, I think in the B&W version, you can get some nice contrast out of the DR you captured. Bring in some of the blacks and let some of the highlights blow. its all aesthetic, but for HDR I like to try to get both ends on the cutoff.
This was a fun little Christmas Card experiment that I tried today with my twins. I messed up with my light placement so had to do a lot of PS correction while layering the 4 shots together, but still a fun little photo shoot.
Got the original idea from Adorama here ([https://youtu.be/ur58XNQwMXA])(https://youtu.be/ur58XNQwMXA)
Something about frosty spider webs that I try to get photos of.
Super bloody chilly here in the UK at the minute, so plenty of frosty webs about.
In a related topic, the algorithms are pounding me with ads on cameras, as well as Lightroom presets and editing apps.
Sunset, squall and SUP.
