I have 4 cameras and ~15 lenses, all of them were bought used and I’ve never had any issue. I got everything off ebay - it’s way cheaper than B&H or similar sites.
If you do go ebay there are lots of sellers that are actual camera shops so they are a bit more trustworthy than FB marketplace or something like that - they’ll inspect and list the issues with the camera if there are any.
Keh has been good to me in the past for lenses and we bought an Instax camera for our wedding that was so cheap compared to the new prices, would use them again. I also had my dad buy used stuff years ago off eBay when he was starting to travel to national parks and wanted higher quality photos. Wouldn’t hesitate to go that route at all.
The main thing I have learned continuing to look into purchasing a DSLR is that it’s a lot like buying golf gear. So many options, can pay whatever you want.
Been looking at Nikon D750s mostly but I fear it’s just a little bulky for what I want. I was originally looking at D610s but felt like it was worth it to buy the D750 at the used prices.
Now I am leaning more towards a smaller mirrorless camera. No full frame is a bummer but not sure it will matter to me. Looking at cameras such as a Sony A6100, Canon EOS R50.
Get what you think won’t get in the way of you using the camera.
There are more great quality smaller form factor options today than there have ever been. There’s also a case to be made for something bulkier that has tactile adjustment options so you aren’t digging through menus to change settings. Any good camera stores near you where you can lay hands on a few different models?
I went to a shop while out in Colorado and the boomerish guy behind the counter told me they are “influencer cameras” and told me to pick up an older full frame DSLR
I found a Nikon Z50 with both kit lens and have been very happy with it so far. I have bought a couple additional full frame lens and rented some others and have no real complaints. I have been eyeing an eventual full frame body like a used Z6II or Z7II. All the reviews on the Z5II or Z50II seem really good but it is too new for much on the used market.
Sony and fuji have my favorite UI / interface. Very intuitive. Sony and fuji both make great mirrorless cameras for the price, cannot go wrong.
Mirrorless definitely the way to go these days in my opinion for a new shooter. Having the exposure live preview in the viewfinder is really nice, I rarely find myself needing to check my photos after and make adjustments. Plus they are smaller and lighter so you’ll be more inclined to actually take it with you when you go places. DSLRs can be bulky.
Anyone have any advice for resizing a picture to get it to print 11x14? The picture I’m trying to print keeps getting cut off when I’m trying to print through Walgreens.
What aspect ratio was the original photo shot in? This will determine what you need to crop the print photo. Most cameras these days shoot in 3:2 aspect ratio or similar. 11x14 is a lot “narrower” which means you will need to either choose how you want to crop the photo or save it with empty space to fit the 11x14.
Gotcha. I didnt take the original picture, just trying to get a print of one I found online. When I’m trying to print it, it keeps cutting roughly an inch to a half inch off of each end.
