The Cornstalk 2025 @ Landmand GC (Homer, NE) - May 31-Jun 1, 2025

I made a 5 playing right at it because I’m dumb and also knew if I did anything wrong it would be a pull to the right and “safer” play. Ended up landing it just on and spinning it off the front and down. Ended barely on the left lip of the bunk caught in the grass. Being left handed I had to play it from in the bunker choked down close to the middle of the steel lol. I chipped it up and didn’t think it would even get to the hole and it ran all the way nearly until the back bumper. Left that chip short naturally and two putted. Solid 5 after I stared down the wedge off the tee thinking it was all over it lol.

By my count 2 birdies and 11 pars.

I putted out of a green side bunker on 8 yesterday :eyes:

@Insulin_And_Bogeys banged his birdie putt off the flag stick on 8. I thought I hit a perfect 54 into the right side and it proceeded to roll 50 feet into the back right bunker where I made double.

I putted off the green uphill on Sunday, fortunately the rough caught it and I was able to save bogey.

The Sunday pin was sick, hit a chippy hybrid to 10 feet

Good on those two! I did see someone in the 115 group hit it pretty close. But basically 10% of us making par or better, now I’m thinking the average was maybe almost 5 even.

I do think it’s kinda cool that maybe the best play is to putt to the front of the green and play for bogey. But that’s also pretty dumb that it was designed such that that’s necessary.

Which hole?

@BTfromDelta had a nice birdie and my +1 had a par but I raised our groups average with a quick sixer

I had a 10. Legitimately tried on every shot.

8th hole

If you hit a chippy hybrid 96 yards and got it to stay on the green then you either really need a stack or you have the hands of a goddess… if you chipped a hybrid and ran it to 10’ then that’s pretty fun and also impressive.

LOL, played a chippy bump and run hybrid landing it half way and letting it run out.

Obviously not everyone at the Stalk was using the Grint, but I would like to invite all of you who were to suck it.

As I drive 4hrs to dirty Myrtle for an unfortunately serious tournament, I’m wishing I was back in the great expanse of the Midwest. Man these events are so awesome. Biggest thanks to @bignanski for dealing with all the bs that something like this entails. Hope you were able to enjoy your golf.

Also special shoutout to @chefcycle for a hell of an ending yesterday. Could’ve easily thrown in the towel down 4 thru 5 and probably feeling more like 6 down the way he was playing. But he kept saying “I’m one swing away” and that swing came on 11, with his 1st of 3 birdie/net eagles to come in -3 gross (-9 net) on his last 8 holes. My valiant birdie-birdie finish to shoot 71 kept the match alive but a simple 2 putt 5/4 sealed it for him. [Note: golf is really fun when everyone’s playing well. Also, handicap system does its job yet again]

Another special shoutout to @OTPLefty for making the trip out to NOT EVEN PLAY GOLF. It’s always a pleasure to shake your hand, but Saturday was a little more emotional. I know we’re all glad you made it out and know you’ll keep trucking along (sorry, probably wrong metaphor).

And just in general to everyone, so many new people I played with, others I just met, so many people I haven’t seen in almost 5 years, and even people who live like 10-15 minutes away from me who I have to fly over 1000mi away to see.

I am missing something, but I am ready to duel, fight to the death, or continue my peacocking in this thread over it. Or all three.

Explain.
