That stinks…It sucks when a job interferes with our hobbies Currently trying to figure how to make them one in the same lol
Here’s the Tao of my match with @BushwoodCaddie. We tangled at Gaston CC, which I think we both agree you should check out if you haven’t.
Here’s a sample of the course.
Anyway, Mr. Bushwood and I played straight up, the way God intended. Ho boy would that be an issue for me .
Hole 1, 481, Par 5: Easy par for me but my opponent sticks a wood to 10 feet where 2 putts for birdie is good to go 1 up.
Hole 2, 163, Par 3: 3 putt for me and a 2 putt from Bushwood to go 2 up.
Hole 3, 392, Par 4: I dumped one in the bunker while Mike has a textbook 2 putt par, 3 up.
Hole 4, 376, Par 4: Mike hits the path, good break, gets it just short of the green then makes bogey. Here’s my chance! I hit my second into the creek, and make double, 4 up.
Hole 5, 402, Par 4: Mike hit a sweet hybrid to 20 feet. My approach ended in a bunker where I could see a dime size portion of the ball. Hack out, stayed in divot, make double. 5 up
At this point, I’m in danger of a Stephen Ames situation. Things were moving quickly for me in the heat and the pressure cooker of the Round of 32.
Hole 6, 334, Par 4: We play through a group here. Halved in 4. 5 up
Hole 7, 485, Par 5: Mike hits into a FW bunker, has to chip out, ends up with bogey. I have a ho hum 2 putt par. 4 up
Hole 8, 175, Par 3: We both stick it to about 10 feet here. Mike misses, I make. 3 up
Hole 9, 395, Par 4: Mike is left but goes over a tree to just short of the green. Diabolical back left pin here. This green was really slow and he slapped it around a bit for a 6. I made a comfortable 5. 2 up
Hole 10, 375, Par 4: Mike sticks his approach to 3 feet for birdie, I make 5. 3 up
Hole 11, 141, Par 3: Both hit the green, but Mike has 100 feet and it’s hard to hit putts hard enough (bent grass). 3 putts to my two. 2 up
Hole 12, 359, Par 4: Mike rolls in a birdie here to my par. 3 up
Hole 13, 513, Par 5: We both hit good drives and have 260+. We’re not long, so sensible layups leave us with 100 in. We both miss the green and halve with bogeys . 3 up
Hole 14, 158, Par 3: We both hit the green, but a sloppy 3-putt (have I mentioned I’m battling the yips) gives Mike the win. 4 up.
Hole 15, 400, Par 4: It’s essentially over with the 0.5 hole lead, but we play this hole to make it official. We both reach the green on this uphill beast. Two putts for each of us. Mike wins 4&3.
We finished off the rest of the holes and capped off a really fun day. Mike played solid and I didn’t quite have it. A good formula for the 4&3 beatdown. LIke a true gentleman he bought me a beer afterward and I returned the favor on the second round. Happy to play with Mike again any time!
@Swing_hard_and_hope let me know if I’m supposed to do anything else.
An absolute pleasure to meet and tee it up with @tigergolftraveler Hope we can do it again sometime soon. I’ve been wanting to see Gaston CC for sometime so was beyond stoked when Mr TGT lined up the match. Great company, great course, great afternoon. I was lucky to get off to the hot start and hold on. Aspirational pace on a hot afternoon and at several times it felt like we had the course to ourselves. As TGT stated, get out to Gaston if you’re able. I believe I’ve heard the Morganton Mimosa Mafia say they have a recip. @anon29849602 @bmasters @PowerFadez you’ll def want to take advantage of that this fall.
@EFreeCHS and I weren’t able to get a match in unfortunately. I’ve got a lot travel coming up so I’m going to hand him the match and let him move on.
I defeated @FUwolfpacker at a golf course in the Charleston area today, 5.5 & 5. I really appreciated him making the three-hour drive down from Greenville to accommodate my super busy schedule
Was great meeting you! It was a pleasant butt kicking!
@PowerFadez and I got together at Cedar Rock CC this afternoon. His decision to wear long pants was nearly as bold as his absurd tee shot on the first that gave him a quick 1.5 up lead. Fortunately for me, the tee balls got a little erratic for a stretch later in the front that allowed me to build a 2.5 up lead at the turn. We traded blows from 10-13 leaving the advantage at 2.5 up. Three straight holes with halving pars from there gave me a 2.5 & 2 victory.
Really enjoyed the round and first crack at Cedar Rock. The greens were a little shaggy as to be expected with bent grass in August, but fun layout that provided some interesting match play strategy.
@ColoniusFunk won today 3&2 over me. I’ll let him give a summary if he wants but I’ll just say the first 5 holes were a knockdown, drag out pillow fight. It got better after that but some steady golf from him on 14-16 won it
The man is the logo for a reason.
Joined @westerj12 and @ColoniusFunk to take on @CrucialTaunt at pine needles in the first Sweet 16 matchup as we could get our schedules to align. I was giving him many strokes but he had gotten after it the day prior. A back and forth front nine with a couple of errant tee shots from me left us at A/S through 9. I got off to a quick start on the back was up 3 through 12 only to hand them straight back on the next 3. A wild swing on 17 tee from CT put me 1 up headed to the 18th. I got up and down from the greenside bunker to save a par and win the match. Was a pleasure playing with the group as always and made even better by a great course.
And just like that we are on to the sweet 16. This is the point in the tournament where you throw out all the records and it takes heart to move on! 16 matches left until we crown a champion. I am glad to see some heavy hitters moving on as well as some Refuge up and comers! There will be drama down the stretch and boy do we like that.
Also, I LOVE reading all these write-ups and feeling a part of these matches as they come in, particularly because I wasn’t able to notch any wins myself, so keep that coming. And if you are able to get witnesses / documenters to come out for your matches from here on out that would be encouraged. Make sure to tag the CLC on instagram!
As a reminder going to share all the important details:
Dates / Details
Round of 16
- August 30 - September 20th
- You will have 3 weeks to play your match, if not work with the commish to determine who will advance (please don’t let it come to that).
Elite 8
- September 21 - October 14th
- You will have a little over 3 weeks to play your match, if not work with the commish to determine who will advance (please don’t let it come to that).
Final 4
- Hosted for a 36 hole matchplay day at Forest Creek Golf Club, this will be on either 10/15, 10/16, or 10/17 based on availability of the 4 competitors and our host, @Cody
The Play
- Full handicaps will be used
- Competitors can choose which tee they would like to play from during competition, but we all know it makes it a little better if both competitors play from the same tee
- An 18 hole match is suggested, but if needed for time purposes and agreed on by both competitors a 9 hole match will be allowed.
The Points
Knockout Stage
- The round of 16, Elite 8, and Final 4 will no longer give competitors an advantage and will be a simple 18 hole match to determine the winner. This can not end in a tie, but is on the competitors to determine their “tiebreak” before the round. If you can not make your match happen in the 3 weeks we will work together to come up with a plan.

Myself and @Hawk are looking at playing our match on 9/11 or 9/12. We will be playing at The Cardinal in Greensboro. The greens will be 2 weeks out from being punched but should be fit for play. We have 2 spots open as of now if anyone is interested.
Will there be room for spectators/caddies for the final 4?
GCC looks awesome.
I hope so.
any betting options available at this time?
Really enjoyed it and def want to see it again when the bent is prime. If nothing else, they host the MondayQ for the Quail tournament each year so will be checking that out to see how those boys tear it up.
Would be awesome to have a group of CLC’ers following along
If it’s 9/12, i could likely make it.
