Welcome to the 2023 Edition of the CLC Matchplay. Excited for this ride with you all until we crown an ultimate champion to join @BrooklynAJ and @grizzly224 as our matchplay champs and raise the trophy.

Some fun stats:

  • 70 Golfers (not as nice)
  • 3 states of residence, four states of pod groups
  • Pinehurst was the most common requested Final 4 location
  • Only one suggestion that made me blush - “You’re very pretty” thanks @LukeBoatright

Format

  • Pod Play will last March 15 - July 1
  • Each pod is either 4 or 5 players. You are requested to play one match against each of the members of your pod.
  • Pod scoring: 3 points for a win. 1 pt for a tie. .5 points if you do not play the match in the timeframe
  • Top 2 golfers from each pod will advance to the knockout stages
  • Round of 32: July 1 - August 6
  • Round of 16: August 7 - Sept 10
  • Elite 8: Sept 11 - Oct 8
  • Final 4: One of 10/14 or 10/21 weekends - location TBD

Actions

  1. $25 to confirm your spot in your pod due by March 15. Payment Options: Venmo: (@tlawler - last 4: 7142) Paypal (@tlawler7 )
  2. Check out this sheet (I’ll unlock after I announce all the pods). One member of your pod will need to duplicate the “Example tracker” tab to keep track of your pod play matches.
  3. Start a chat with your pod to start planning matches, talking trash, and encouraging them to get their deposit in.

FAQ

  1. 70 x 25 = $1750 dollars what does that go towards?
    A: For the most part it goes to the Final 4 weekend. The plan is to gift those guys with free golf, lodging, and maybe even a gift or 2 for the weekend. You can see post 840 to see what costs looked like last year. I do still have the $208 leftover and need to buy the plaques, I have not spent that money on diapers yet I promise.

  2. How do I decide where to play my matches?
    A: I encourage a 3and1 model. One competitor gives three options, the other competitor choses which one to play.

  3. Will we have zombie golfers?
    A: Gosh I hope not, I don’t have the plan yet, but if we get to the point of a golfer dropout in the knockout stages we will determine what will happen next. But I promise it wont be the same.

  4. What is going on when @Fore20 and @grizzly224 go off in the whats app?
    A: Its really not worth exploring.

5: What if a person in my pod isn’t on the refuge?
A: You should be able to find them in the whatsapp chat, but let me know if you need help.
