The Carolina Swig & Swing - 3/14/20 - DETAILS IN POST 826, RAFFLE ITEMS & PAIRINGS POST 1672

Alrighty folks:

We have finalized the most of the major details of the Charlotte meetup. We apologize for taking so long to get them out, we have had a few logistical challenges in getting the golf squared away. We feel confident that what we have set up is a pretty sweet lineup and that we are all going to have a blast.

A quick note, we looked into renting a course for the entire day, specifically Sifford, but were unable to do so due to the management team wanting to keep options open for their regular customers. It’s just not in the cards this time, sorry folks. Should still be an awesome day.

Charity/Auction Items: North Carolina, and Charlotte in particular, has a noted issue with teacher pay and retention, and it’s a problem that is not going away. We have chosen to support the Teaching Fellows Institute, a Charlotte-based organization dedicated to helping teachers fight for what they deserve. Mission statement here, and donate here. We will be announcing charity auctions and other options to donate in the coming weeks, and if you are able to contribute items to put up for auction to benefit the TFI, please DM me and we will get it set up. There will be no mandatory donation to attend this event, but we encourage you to #getinvolved for this great local cause.

Friday PM:
Going to play at Harry Jones, a few miles from Sifford. We had considered having a Saturday round there, but there have been some conditioning issues (which the course was very upfront about). However, this is a Mike Hurzdan (Erin Hills course), close to downtown, and they have $1 domestic beers on Friday.

Friday Evening : We will be getting Wings at Moosehead Grill starting around 7 PM. If you’re not a wings fan, LITERALLY everything I’ve ever eaten there is delicious.

Saturday AM: We have 12 tee times set up at Monroe Golf Club from 8-10 AM. Bojangles will be served for breakfast. Monroe has a front 9 designed by Donald Ross and a back 9 by Tom Jackson. This course is about 45 minutes from downtown Charlotte. This event will be the NIT Qualifier. See below for details.

Saturday PM : We will be playing at Dr Charles Sifford in downtown Charlotte starting at 1:30 PM. We are going to try and get some tee times before 1:30 as well, as this leg of the event is open to the 48 attendees AND anyone on the wait list that confirms attendance within 1 week prior to the meetup or we reach 12 wait listees. Anyone else that’s wanting come is welcome, but not sure we’d be able to snag tee times. Wait list attendees will tee off first, then as people trickle in from Monroe, they will tee off next. This magnanimous decision was based on scholarly review of the original texts of the TC Way.

** Something important to me for this event due to the drive from Monroe to Sifford, and then to the AirBnb is the availability of Designated Drivers. I understand that it’s 8 AM Saturday morning, but we want to make sure everyone feels comfortable with their situation. DBD has set up a DD column on the spreadsheet, please sign up if you are willing**

Saturday Evening : We plan to get together at the AirBNB/party house with a catered BBQ dinner and BYOB. Location will be revealed on Saturday AM. If you have coolers, please bring them.

Sunday AM: We have 6 tee times at Mooresville Golf Club starting at 10 AM. Please PM @Double_Bogey_Dave if you plan to play at Mooresville on Sunday. Each person will be paying their own greens fee, price TBD.

Swag: We are working on this aspect. Keep your eyes and ears open.

Format/NIT Info:

  • We will be using the quota/Stableford game that the Strapped boys use. You must have a GHIN established to participate, or at least a verified Grint, etc. handicap. As far as handicaps go, don’t be a scumbag. This will take place at Monroe in the morning round.

  • The quota will be 36 minus your course handicap. Because the quota number accounts for your handicap, we will be using gross scores. The person with the highest number above their quota wins. This format should encourage a good pace of play, and unless you’re playing a side game for a few units, please use your best judgement and pick up as appropriate.

    • Jumbo Bird/Ace: 5 points
    • Eagle: 4 points
    • Birdie: 3 points
    • Par: 2 points
    • Bogey: 1 point
      Anything else is 0
  • We have one NIT qualifying spot available. It can only be won by Nest members, so if the “winner” of the event is not a Nesticle, the spot will be given to next highest score who is in the Nest.

  • In the event of a tie, an up-and-down-off will be held at the end of the day with the eyes of West Charlotte upon you on Sifford’s diabolical putting green.

Cost : $26 for walking 18 @ Monroe,$40 with a cart. $24.25 walking @ Sifford, $36 with a cart. Everyone will pay for their own rounds as of now. Sifford is notably slow with their checkout process, so we may end up paying that in one swoop. The rest of the cost is up in the air, but with breakfast and dinner included, please plan for $75-125 bucks all in.

Looking forward to meeting the new folks, and hugging it out with the old ones. I am jealous of the first timers in a way, because I’m not sure you guise realize how much fun this is going to be.

LET’S. GO. LAUNCH EM.
