Strapped: Spring Training! (Arizona) - Touching Fingies and Budget Analysis

It’s 100% Mariano’s music even if others used it. Trevor Hoffman was hells bells.

It’s silly but I miss Thorne’s home run call. I have enjoyed listening to Kevin Brown the last couple years, who knows maybe he’ll stick around for the next 20, although that doesn’t seem to be the way media works these days. Palmer is at least still there after all these years

I got to listen and enjoy 20+ years of the great Vin Scully, and it’s crazy to think I still missed more than 2/3rds of his 67 year career.

We loved the opening with the baseball skills training, Randy rocking the Reds cap. You got the late 70’s sound exactly right, it fit perfectly with the mustaches.

We also loved the mini golf with Beneti!

i just really love this series and want to give @djpie his flowers. strapped adds such an interesting dynamic to the nlu universe because dj is allowed to flex his creative muscles on it. many have said it in similar words, but where else are we going to get an emanski send up, episodes focused on baseball broadcasters, and nostalgia about little league (with a throwaway royal tenenbaums clip to boot) in a series ostensibly about golf? shane ryan captured it way better than i ever could about what this series is “about”, but i love the narrative of growth that we have seen since s1 and especially from s10 e2 onwards.

i could write so much more that will serve only to be self-congratulatory bs that no one really wants to read, but i will just say that i hope this series lasts a few more seasons as the nlu creative outlet because it makes the whole experience as a nest member that much richer. how can you not be romantic about strapped?

Really enjoyed the series, personally I would 100% be down to strapped evolving into something to provide more creative freedom to the crew. I’d love to see something along the line Destinations with the Diner Boys. It’d be less about staying within a set budget but still focus on value, could open the door to the guys bringing others along to be featured. A great example would be having @djpie having more face time with Jason in the last episode.

I like Brown. And I actually love McDonald as the color guy. But I miss it consistently being the same two people in the booth night in and night out. Palmer and McDonald swapping in and out just isn’t the same. Thorne was so so good, a shame MASN cheaped out.

This!

I think they can evolve away from the budget and just stick to reasonably priced public golf and also a focus on cheap to reasonably priced must try local restaurants for a post round meal.

My man ! Used to watch Cubs games during the day and the Braves on the Superstation at night. The Dale Murphy teams were a great watch. What a time to be young and love baseball.

Also, the Shane Ryan “this is about friendship” was never more true than after watching the last episode.

On a road trip dropping my kid off at summer camp, our hotel had almost no sports on … but it did, randomly, have the White Sox game on and I heard the dulcet sounds of Mr Jason Bennetti. What a treat.

Highlight of every Sox game. Though, they did take 2 of 3 from the Braves this weekend.

Strapped always had that Anthony Bourdain inspiration in the way it presented people and places. I like that the increased budget can take some focus off of the money and more onto the people and places the boys head to. Sign me up for as many series as possible of just that.

Also big missed opportunity to coin Sendvin Youkilis when Neil was rocking the goat.

I grew up catching the tail end of Chuck Thompson’s career and then Jon Miller. I liked Thorne, but he just never felt like an Orioles broadcaster. Maybe because he did so many other things, his voice just didn’t take my mind to an O’s game (or really even baseball) like the others. However, I have been really enjoying Kevin Brown. I think he has a great sense of humor and generally makes the games more enjoyable.

Great season. Was fun to mix it up and see the guys have a great time meeting some people they really admire. A little disappointed that after a minigolf episode, this thread hasn’t had a callback to the thread with the last mini golf episode where @Sarah dropped what would end up as the 2020 POTY.

This post still makes me cackle.
