Strapped Season 9: New Mexico: Will we see New Mexico in Ep. 2?

I know nothing about New Mexico, but after the newsletter email today confirming it’s the location of Strapped Season 9, and this photo, I’m so damn excited to watch it. Anything we should look out for @MerchCzar & @Randy

This is awesome. Really hope they stop by Piñon Hills and Los Alamos, two fairly unique courses for really, really different reasons. I haven’t played anywhere in NM but I’ve driven all over the state, and it’s going to be an absolute cheat code for getting great landscape shots. Place looks like fuckin Mars.

Oh man, I have wondered what the golf scene in New Mexico is like recently, it seems like it could be a great spot to potentially look at for a winter vacation spot that is a little less known than Palm Springs/Scottsdale. Looking forward to this!

I haven’t really traveled for golf outside of the annual friends trip on the east coast. I have never thought of New Mexico when golf travel comes to mind, excited to see what is in store.

You can also go to Taos in the Winter - get yourself a golf & ski trip. Just fly with all the luggage.

Can’t wait to hear @MerchCzar say “dry heat” at least 14x

I’ve lived in NM most of my life. Even though work pulled me to AZ 7 years ago, I still have a lot of roots there. I cannot wait to see the boys take on some of the local courses and enjoy the beer and unique cuisine after the round. There are several good options around the state for Strapped rounds that will keep them within the allocated budget. Piñon Hills in Farmington is at the top of the list, but even around Albuquerque almost all of the golf is reasonably priced. @T3J - I wholeheartedly endorse NM as a substitute for Scottsdale. There are several courses within easy driving distance of the ABQ airport that are at least as good if not better for a fraction of the cost.
My NM Top 5 Strapped Courses (with no idea where the boys end up):
Piñon Hills (Farmington, NM)
Combo 18 hole - UNM North 9 & Puerto del Sol 9 (Albuquerque - East)
Coyote del Malpais (Grants, NM)
Desert Greens (Albuqerque - West)
NM Tech Golf Course (Socorro, NM)

New Mexico Tech!

I stopped for the night in Socorro driving between Denver and college in Tucson. Was happy to find such an enjoyable place to play. You may be the only other person I know who’s played the course. Maybe even heard of it.

I’ve played Los Alamos. Really fun track. Pinon hills is tough when the wind gets going

Very excited for this. My only knowledge of New Mexico is going to Albuquerque as a kid for soccer tournaments and thinking that it really sucked. Excited to learn more about the state and to have a positive spotlight put on it so I can change my uneducated view.

Aw yeah, Green Chile Cheeseburgers are defs happening

Growing up in West Texas, we would go ski and bet on the horses in Ruidoso. There I played my first full round of golf with my step mom at Cree Meadows. I remember a few holes that were really cool but can’t recall all of it with absolute clarity.

Been all over after we moved to El Paso for my last three semesters of high school, so lotsa time in Rui, Cruces, White Sands, Roswell, Angel Fire and Taos, and then my dad lived in ABQ as did one of my best friends for awhile.

And yes, a green chile cheeseburger must be consumed upon arrival for any neophyte traveler.

Well this fits well considering I’m driving out tomorrow for a Santa Fe weekend of golf with my college buddies…definitely won’t be too ‘strapped’ style, though.

Two friends got married in 2014 in ABQ. The wife’s family live there. I played UNM (early morning before a US Amateur qualifier) and enjoyed several of Golden Pride’s breakfast burritos. I think about those burritos a lot, actually.

In fact I can say truthfully that I played a venue the day of a US Amateur qualifier, shot 90, but didn’t get a letter from the USGA.

New Mexico golf is underrated. I had way more fun on a golf trip in NM than I have in Arizona and spent half the money. Hope they play Black Mesa in Espanola, north of Santa Fe. That place is awesome.

If anyone is passing through NM do not miss out on Blake’s Burgers, top 3 breakfast burrito

Sandia Resort & Casino (more C suite than Strapped) is one of my favorite places to spend a weekend, gamble, golf and pamper, excited for this season

I hear Rockwind Community Links is also very good, but Hobbs is a bit out of the way. I really hope they stop by White Sands, that place is unreal!

My dog buried his face in White Sands and rolled around until every inch of body was covered. It was his first time seeing sand. Soooo I didn’t love my experience there.

But I did stop by the giant pistachio and got some great pistachio ice cream
