Huge Louisville guys
Neil should’ve been face down in some cheese enchiladas striking this pose after the MB slipped away
Can’t express how hyped I am that this season dropped one month before my buddies golf trip to Rockford, IL. Booking six rounds of golf for $294 total (cart included); the Airbnb for 12 guys ran less than $150 per man for three nights. Some of the best cheap-but-quality public golf in the Midwest.
(The key is to find a Rust Belt city with solid mid-to-late century courses that survived to the COVID boom.)
i dont know about this … i mean the show is literally called strapped… i dont believe they are refering to “carrying guns”
Don’t let them gaslight us!
To me the ethos of Strapped has been to go to domestic locations and showcase a budget “golf” trip at a destination that’s not going to be found on a Top Whatever # list. Yes, it’s more entertaining with the cast of characters and the shenanigans, but at it’s core it’s still about exploring the golf culture of America and showing you can have fun in lesser known “golf” places.
Isn’t $500 from season 1 like $800 in today’s dollars???
(close enough)
$500 in 2018 adjusted for inflation is $636.
Exactly. Feel like we’re taking crazy pills trying to defend the sanctity of the budget
Thanks a lot Obama
Chef’s kiss to Lady J for including The Mountain Goats in an award-winning soundtrack. Finally seeing them later this summer.
Gentlemen! I have to exclude myself from this elite company in the MegaB club. I’m fairly certain at Dobson I shot even or +1 in my sherpa round. I know I made four or five birdies, but had some loose swings that didn’t make the final cut.
Nonetheless, an honor to be in the presence of greatness.
Brilliant stuff, per usual!
@djpie @MerchCzar @Randy Kudos to whose ever idea it was to recreate this scene!
Also, @MerchCzar can you please confirm or deny if you dropped this line on Chavo?
Obviously could pocket balls but no cue ball control. That bridge is atrocious.
So this is why the budget had to change for all those pushing back.
Rawls was $130 for the two. The two Hogan Ranch courses are $31 on week days so that’s $124. That’s $254 just for the golf. Three nights in an Airbnb is gonna be at least $200, right? So we are supposed to watch guys eat peanuts and water for three days?
And it’s not like West Texas is an expensive part of the country.
The budget has always been a major driver of the show but within that has always been a suffering element the boys had to endure which just isn’t that fun after time (and assuredly much less fun for the boys.)
The fact the budget wasn’t relevant and they spent $100 at a museum and on sword fighting lessons is also worth pointing out but honestly that was awesome content and way better than watching them eat terrible food and spoon together in a twin bed.
Loved season 12. The radio phone callers were great.
Lotta bad takes in this thread
Bunch of literalist who don’t understand the power of narrative. Pick up a book once or twice…
Shout out to Calum also a Silver Medal winner.
Don’t think that should go unmentioned.
I know the initial focus of the West Texas series has been on the film and TV series ‘Friday Night Lights’, howeva, I would like to offer up Taylor Sheridan’s excellent film ‘Hell or High Water’ as perhaps a more comparable work to that of Strapped, West Texas:
- Both are set in West Texas and use the area as a character in the plot.
- Economic hardship and resourcefulness are central to the plot of both. The brothers in Hell or High Water rob Texas Midland Bank branches to get the money to repay the mortgage on their mother’s ranch whilst Randy and Neil use their budget, provided by the C-Suite, and their own graft and guile to survive for 3 days.
- Brotherhood plays a significant role in both. The Howard brothers work together and sacrifice significantly to see their project through to completion. Neil and Randy talk about brotherhood regularly and support each other through good times and bad.
- The similarities and differences between the main characters in both works is striking. Whilst Toby Howard planned out the robberies meticulously, Tanner’s wild nature leads him to take unnecessary risks which can frustrate Toby. Neil has had the mega bonus in his hands a number of times but late round mistakes have meant the boys have never been able to win it and enjoy it.
- There are “some” physical similarities between Neil and Tanner Howard
