The show is a perfectly enjoyable CW level teen drama. The movie and the book it’s based off of are definitely better imo. I will say that using the Astrodome as the neutral site for the game between a team from Odessa and one from Dallas doesn’t make a bit of sense in the movie but it made for good spectacle I guess.

I guess thats the part that gets me, its CW teen drama, riding the name coat tails of something better. I wouldnt tell anyone not to watch it or anything, dont want to yuck yums.
Also, “based off of” is doing some real work there, other than being a HS football team in Texas. Ha!
