I’m not talking about Fishers Island!! Give me a break you are not arguing in good faith! I’ve made it clear multiple times that I’m talking about people who make at least a decent living, which this board is full of.
Another person who lacks the ability to interpret the simplest of points!
My wallet probably isn’t fat enough, sorry.
But doesn’t that kind of disprove your point? If you find yourself in Reno, would you really want to pony up for the best course? I mean, it’s Reno National, not Fisher’s Island! So why not just save a few bucks and have fun at a shitty course with some interesting characters?
If you’re in Monterey or Koehler then there is a discussion to be had.
Come on, man. Do you not see how sandwiching a good/fair comment with digs and jabs will continue to not get you the benefit of the doubt?
To be clear, I understood the point you originally made. Didn’t necessarily care to understand why you needed to say it, but got the point on its own. But, like, man at some point you gotta get out of your own way, ha.
[extremely from Wisconsin voice]
How dare you misspell Kohler, you monster!
So just gamble and play a bad course in hope that maybe you will get paired up with an interesting character? That’s unlikely and could happen anywhere.
I’m glad you brought up Monterey. It’s a perfect example of my point because I just don’t get the EXTREME love for PG (besides the fact that its an affordable refuge for local golfers). I’m not saying it’s terrible but there are 13-14 BAD holes out there and even the good ones have pretty mediocre greens. I just think the reverence it receives is a bit overblown.
A KVV reply is coming!!! Get the sycophants ready for a like brigade! Everyone in position!
Let’s just have a truce, bro. I don’t like fighting on the Internet and hopped The Refuge might be a place I could avoid it after spending the better part of 15 years doing it with other sports writers on sportsjournalists.com. I’ll admit to reading your comment in bad faith but you should admit The Strapped thread was a weird place to make the point you’re trying to make. Something like “How do you decide where to play when on the road?” In a thread title would have been good. GolfNow ratings? ClubAtlas? Word of mouth? The reason I responded the way I did is it just seemed like more smarm.
The comments about “My god you people are sad for heaping such praise on a writer in such a middling profession” aren’t going to win any friends in the next thread even if there is some larger point to be made about judging comments by merit and not author. In general I’d say people enjoy having me around here not out of any sense of hero worship but because I’m friendly, occasionally have a funny story to tell, and I didn’t cry when @DeepFriedEgg dunked on me on the contrarian takes thread. My advice, if you’d be open to it, is not to go bouncing from thread to thread assuming you’re very smart and others are less so. I’ve seen it happen on the airplane thread, the Haney thread, the music thread and now kinda this thread. Have a little humor about yourself and stop boasting you represent the silent majority of real golfers who would be here if they could only get their grandkids to show them how to login.
Just chill and maybe try being friendly and fun instead of insisting the only way anyone could like, say, Neutral Milk Hotel is if they were lying to themselves.
That’s a damn good one too. But TTTC will always be my first true literary love. It’s the whole reason I decided to become a middling writer in a dying profession.
Again, there you go again judging someone else’s subjective opinion with your self-appointed sense of omniscience. Most people in here stated they disagree with you on that point, the definition of “quality golf”. Instead of having some shred of self-awareness and recognizing that, and maybe even converse intelligently, you choose to triple and quadruple down on your own points.
I had plans this evening…
I waited to come in here until I watched the Reno episode.
Sorry if it was said up above but I don’t feel like scrolling through hundreds of posts…
But man, look at Big Randy’s face when Icarito is full on ready to gamble! Getting a bit Jebby there, big guy! Can’t gamble with scared money, go hit the tables and win!
Bet everyone would love to get back to arguing about the right way to play blackjack right about now
I would love a compilation of @Eric_Denver telling people they can’t read.
- Post outrageously stupid troll take
- Complain that no one understands you
- Complain that everyone has it out for you
Wash, rinse, repeat. It’s almost… robotic.
Here’s the problem with the internet: normal people have a pathological inability to ignore idiots.
See now I’m mad at myself that I even asked for a truce because literally as I was typing it, wanting to start fresh, you were still trying to be a dick.
C’mon I was joking.
do you see this @KVV?
It’s apparently “outrageously stupid”, a “troll take” and I’m an idiot for simply believing that it’s worth paying a little more to play good courses while traveling instead of settling for another cheap muni. You can disagree with that but how is it not a reasonable take? These people on here are so biased that they lose their ability to see any rationality in any difference in opinion. It’s absurd.
so how about that strapped episode, huh
Yes! Bring it back, big Mike.
I thought it was great. Looks like the boys might be playing a bit better but I think Randy is really worried Icarito is gonna spiral out of control. Too many temptations in Reno to keep him focused.
Only $250-ish left for 2 days? Can’t wait for the second episode
