I’m fully on board with shooting under par is shooting under par, regardless of course rating. You still gotta hit the shots.
I think the fact that it’s the first and only time he plays it has an effect that isn’t taken into account by the Course Handicap system.
A golfer could truly spend a lifetime trying to figure out how to best attack a course like this. Every type of hole imaginable from short and straight with a bunker left of the green to short and straight with a bunker right of the green.
If we wanna go solely off aerial overviews, Augusta looks like a pretty straightforward course to break the Mega bonus on. Pretty straight with trees on the left, pretty straight with trees on the right. Obviously Madison is a billion times easier but google earth is a disingenuous argument
The Rappeo Hymnal I think. At least to me. Chills every time.
based on the aerial and the strapped episode…it’s just not that penal. driver all day…three examples below but every single hole has plenty of bail out to pay for par on a miss.
First point and I cannot stress how much fun all the NLU guys are to be around, which I’m still convinced that is their secret to their success, but i think @Randy would be an ideal partner in a member-guest

It’s really interesting to me how much land that’s not a fairway there is in between those holes. Every course I’ve been to that has been priced similarly has crammed as many holes as possible into that area.
That’s already a very high-density course.
You’re really underestimating where I’ve played.
If the standard driver miss for most high handicappers is landing in an area that’s not another hole’s tee box, you’re living in luxury.
18:31 for the song from the Strapped episode
love that shape. I think a triangle with one arc-ed side is now officially called a Rappeotic Triangle
to be fair…drawing a straight line is not my forte…
driving a straight line is though. #boom
I think the arc is far more accurate
I know I’m late to the discussion on episode one but here’s some of my thoughts.
Breaking par on a course you’ve never played is insanely difficult no matter the length and nearly impossible (maybe even improbable) for someone who isn’t scratch. Just because it’s under par 72 doesn’t mean it’s “easy”. Par 3s are tricky for anyone, even the pros, because you have to nail up and downs to remain at par if you miss a green, at Neil’s handicap he’s sure to miss a few up and downs. I remember back in the Jim Herman AMA of sorts he explained how difficult it would be for him to break par on a course like Avon due to the amount of par 3s. Par 5s make courses easier especially at their price point because they’re really unlikely to run into any really long ones.
That being said, with Neil’s length he should’ve been killing those baby par 4s. Driver jitters or not, laying up (yuck) and then taking wedges in may be the sensible play but I think I’d rather be as close as possible on my second shot rather that having the thought that “oh I’ve been hitting full wedges great lately, I can just plan on putting this one close” because then when you don’t it’s killer for your mindset because then the doubt creeps in and you start questioning everything.
Also, Avon Fields taking a ricochet shot was a mean jab from the C-Suite, at least Avon is interesting. I did not particularly find this course enjoyable to watch or even very interesting, but it definitely had some quirks that were funny. I think hearing Neil smash driver (with tour speed, according to Max Homa) right next to an apartment window had to have been a harrowing experience for those residents.
After the Winter Park WWoG and Ep 1 of Peoria, I really just want a series with Randy traveling to courses that have roads crossing through the course and getting a description of those holes.

Many people are saying that Randy shot a 34 at the WP9
It’s time for Randy to have his own logo for the back of the hat, Ala TW or Jordan
