If he doesn’t like Baltimore, he wouldn’t dare venture into my hometown AKA “The Most Dangerous City in America”.
I know this thread went a little wonky but I’m happy to report this season has turned a few of my friends - that are completely uninterested in golf mind you - in to NLU fans. They certainly wont consume every bit of content, but they definitely are excited for any upcoming Strapped seasons. I think that says a lot about the quality of the show
just a heads up here…
Inject this straight into my veins.
sweet jesus
I get nervous every time there’s a new post in this thread that it’s a brave Refugee announcing they are going to brave the post-apocalyptic hell that is Baltimore but never return. I can breath easy again.
this thread is by far the weirdest and to a point, most interesting view of social science on a screen.
I also have created a personal drinking game based on the use of the term ‘polite society’.
carry on.
I have been inspired by Strapped and this thread to begin a second pass through The Wire, 14 years after the first. So far, I have limited my watching to days when I am scheduled for a run but end up on the treadmill due to weather or other obligations. So only two episodes so far, but it’s been great remembering the characters.
“There you go again, giving a f#$k when it ain’t your turn to give a f$#k”
I watched the first time through interested in the drama the most. I recently watched it a second time and was stunned at how deep the show is. The drama is great but the genius of the show lies in the characters and institutions they are struggling in
I’ve rewatched a few times and it always amazes me how hot it comes in. The aftermath of the murder of Snotboogie is the very first scene.
One of my favorite scenes in the wire sans the last Bubbs scene:
My wife was good friends in high school with the actress that plays the prosecutor. Puts me a few degrees away from lots of people in the Kevin Bacon game.
Enjoy. I mentioned earlier but I’m watching it through a third time with some friends that haven’t seen it. We’re two episodes into Season 3.
@Snellspace says it best, it’s about the depth. Even the “bad” seasons are great (there aren’t any, just saying).
Omar remains one of my favorite characters of all time.
Hell, all the characters are good but the great ones in no particular order: Omar, Bodie, Michael, Carver, Bubbs, Randy Wagstaff, Prezbo, Lester, Bunk, Gus Haynes, Cutty, man it just goes on and on.
Agreed. Omar just stands above for me.
How am I supposed to live here if they aint got no honey nut?
… Marlo, Snoop, Spiros, Brother Mouzone
…Stringer, D, Poot, Wallace, Prop Joe
Landsman, Kima, Slim Charles, Herc, Clay Davis (Sheeeeeeeiiiiitttttt), Ziggy, Lt. Daniels…
