Strapped Baltimore (Season 5) - @KVV rants about different shows

Long time listener, first time caller. Baltimore Strapped seems like the right time to get involved in the community.

Another great episode, glad the boys stuck with the munis and got to take in some of the bay. That @KVV tidbit about season 2 of The Wire with the boat party symbolism just struck a chord with me. Growing up in Maryland, having lived and worked in Baltimore, DC, and Annapolis, playing (lots of) public and (very little) private golf everywhere and meeting all types of people- there is a real truth to the whole ‘playground for the rich’ versus ‘working class grind’ dichotomy in Baltimore. I definitely exist in the middle of that dichotomy and it’s really fascinating to see the rich culture and pride and traditions of both sides. And I imagine you can find that in any city/place, but because Baltimore is so old and developed and has this deeply rooted patchwork of neighborhoods with their own histories, I feel like the vibe is even more condensed here.

But what I meant to say before I spun off on that tangent… my favorite part of Strapped is when @Randy and @MerchCzar find a place to stay after they already get to the destination, and that they’ll talk unscripted with their hosts and other people they meet about the city and just anything. Sometimes ending with impromptu jam sessions or history lessons about Jim Thorpe or the receipt of a post goth rock techno demo CD… There is just something so real and so pure about all of that, and it naturally makes me want to watch and care so much more about these episodes (even when they haven’t been set in my home city). I think what you guys are doing is awesome- I’m really just thankful for Strapped and everything you guys put out there. Wipes Tear

Also, can we talk about that Summer crab sesh @KVV’s? Sheesh that looked like a great time.

I do think two things could make this series epic

The Airbnb host draws an Icarito flying through Baltimore

@MerchCzar blows the entire budget after hitting the megabonus and putting everything on red at the closest roulette wheel in Baltimore and the boys are left sleeping in a tent in @KVV backyard rocking out to Maggie Koerner on spotify eating pancakes.

There is a casino in downtown Baltimore…

didn’t think it was possible for me to miss summer any more until i watched that scene

I would rather have a crab and beer hang in that exact place than a freaking 9 course tasting menu with wine pairings at the French Laundry. I could taste that first beer through the screen.

This is the difference between meal and food. I was lucky enough that my parents took my wife and I to French Laundry for our one year anniversary (no wine pairing just a two nice bottles for the four of us). I have to say it still is the best food I’ve ever eaten BUT it was not the best meal I’ve ever had. Nothing is more appealing than sitting on a back deck on a perfect summer night with your closest buddies and family sharing the nostalgic meal of your childhood washing it down with local brews. THAT is living.

PS French Laundry is still :fire: :fire:

You have a sweet swing. Way to stay with it after a slightly wayward tee shot.

Yes i appreciated the sauce as well. And he’s got a baller move through the ball

I still don’t understand that term. If there is public play allowed and you can just jump in the tee sheet just say it’s public and you can be a member if you want. Semi-private is a bullshit attempt at a status symbol. You do you big fella, I’ll ride with you on semi-PUBLIC!

The cold open was amazing. Had me laughing out loud.

I’m sure this has been said before, but the real mega bonus is the friends we make along the way.

Loved this episode as well, @KVV puts some HURT on that tee ball!

Any info on the opening song (acoustic guitar) please @djpie?

Haha, that intro is yours truly playing a piece called, “DJ Pie sees how close he can get to ripping off The Wire Theme Song without technically violating the copyright.”
