Steeplechase II at Jeffersonville GC (Norristown, PA): 2022, July 16th

Yah I see on the map now. That’s the shopping center that went in after I left for college. Crazy.

Yo that Lost Abbey Red Poppy has to be incredible. Sick lineup

Right?!

World Wide Stout and Pliny on a random weeknight in the burbs.

Capone’s has had one of the best beer programs around for a long time. I’d put in the top-5 with Monk’s, Teresa’s Next Door, Pinocchio’s, and (although it’s a hike) Pizza Boy.

Pinocchio’s in Media? A buddy has been trying to get me there forever. We should set up a round at Paxon Hollow then head there after sometime.

Thanks dude! Yeah I think I’m gonna send another follow up to our crew that hasn’t responded yet.

I was also considering the notion of mentioning it in the Golfer’s Journal discord, I think they’ve got a little event there at the end of July and it sounds like there’s a waitlist already. Any thoughts from this crew on that?

I think there is already so much crossover that would be great as long as TGJ are ok with it

Yeah I would absolutely do it. I mentioned it in our refuge NYC discord as well.

Funny, I played Paxon yesterday.

Yeah Pinochio’s in Media. It’s kind of like Capone’s in that it’s just this old school mediocre pizza place but has an insane beer program. It’s actually kind of a great place for large hangs because they have a crazy all-you-can-eat pizza deal.

If you want to meet up at Paxon just let me know. I live less than 10 minutes from there.

Gave me a good chuckle

Hand up, been reading the thread but haven’t been committing anything to memory. Might have something to do with my two week old or my insane 2 year old, but I realized this morning I don’t know any of the details of this event other than I’ve paid and that it is happening next weekend. Can someone give me the cliff notes version of how I find out my tee time and if I need to do anything else other than show up?

Chap’s is right there too - make a left out of the course and it’s on the right. Solid food and usually a good tap list.

Will 100% vouch for Chaps. Our Tuesday league goes there every week; great food and solid beer selection.

Paxon is great, one of my favorites in the area. I don’t know if they’ve started construction yet - they’re changing the first three holes in lieu of a driving range. Fun fact, Jim Wagner (Gil Hanse’s shaper) grew up playing there and comes back frequently to redo bunkers and other tidbits.

Paxon has a lot going for it and a few annoyances. There’s a lot to like about it.

-The property is small but awesome. The back-9 especially is classic Philly rolling terrain.
-The greenside bunkering is excellent and helps protects par. Apparently Jim Wagner does work on them pro bono which I’m sure helps.
-The conditions are usually solid but the greens get a little beat up from all of the play.
-There are some legit awesome holes. #12 is a perfect Philly par-4 that could be at home on the best courses in the area. #10 is a quirky and fun short par-4. #18 is one of the toughest closing holes in Philly. All of the par-3’s have challenges.

The problems are the usual that busy publics deal with. Some trees need to go, they make a few tee shots kinda unfair…The course gets so crowded with old timers and make rounds a slog at peak times. Especially since there are a bunch of short par-4’s that slow things down.

But overall, Paxon is good and getting better. They announced that Tyler Rae is redoing the first four holes—which I think are the worst on the course.
