Excellent film!
Should someone not produce “Stanford Women’s Golf Coffee Appreciation Society” tumblers?

Here we go again with the top seed in trouble in match play.
Still a lot of golf to play but Georgia leading in 3 matches, Stanford just 2. Weird things happening for the Bulldogs, like making eagle at #10.
Knew immediately that you were Australian by posting this. Love it
GolfStat… oy.
I didn’t get to compete in college, but all of my junior golf through high school comp was 100% stroke play. Do they have much match play in college outside of this? I know plenty of golfers that are sticks when it comes to solo stroke play but can be a bit of a head case when it comes to match play.
The ACC added a match play component to their conference tournament in response to the NCAA format change. Unsure if there’s any other match play conference tournaments or a match play regular season event. That said, a lot of the kids will have played in USGA Am tournaments which are match play events.
Okay makes sense. So shouldn’t be a “lack of match play” situation. Still going to be crazy if we see again that the #1 seed struggles when match play kicks in.
Looking at Stanford’s schedule I see they played a one day match against San Jose State. No other match play though. It’s not typical in regular season college golf unless teams schedule one-off competitions. ASU has a Ryder Cup style match they play against Arizona, for example.
It’s not as though we’re talking about a #16 seed beating a #1 seed in the first round of the basketball tournament. This is like the Elite 8; these teams are all good.
I don’t think it’s so much that these players struggle with match play per se. Rose Zhang has won the Am and Junior Am, after all, the young woman can clearly play match play. But she’s losing today.
Match play is just a fickle bitch like that. Even Tiger only won the Match Play 3 times.
Not sure if it’s widely known so I thought I would offer some insight.
Mark Laesch founded GolfStat in 1984 as a way to track his own college golf and baseball statistics while at Indiana University. Mark passed away from a lengthy battle with ALS in 2017. His father, uncle and sister all passed away from ALS prior to Mark.
Mark’s son Brian took over GolfStat shortly after his father was diagnosed in 2015. Brian passed away in September 2021 at age 41 from ALS.
Holy shit that’s sad.
Rachel comes up big on 18 - 1UP and puts her 3rd inside her opponents. Stanford up 3 in 2 other matches - this point here should lock it up for the girls
Yes, it’s sad. We’ve met the son at Nationals. God people that care about college golf.
This is a dumb pet peeve… but some of the referees announcing the entire school name is driving me insane
“University of California Los Angeles 4… Auburn University 4… University of California Los Angeles leads 2 up”…
advancing despite a Rose loss - hopefully she turns it on for the semis this afternoon
Q: do they get a lunch break?
Hell of a comeback for Auburn. War damn!
Does every college golf coach just have immaculate vibe?
Technically she didn’t lose. Was 1 Down on 18!
Nevertheless, always good to win when your best player isn’t at their best.
