Rust Belt Rumble 2025: 6/28/25; OATW vs FCF

I was talking to @Nap9super yesterday and he laughed and said that if he had a year to strategize for this event he could get some wicked stuff dialed up.

Rookie move not to play reds for singles. All tees were good

Yall won so yall pick the spot! Would gladly co-sign it. After the display yesterday it cemented itself as the anchor site in my opinion

After how well the staff took care of us and how much fun the course was to play I’m going to go ahead and echo that Napoleon should be the anchor site for this going forward. It’s a bit further away for some, but the course is a blast and having the course to ourselves makes it so much easier to not stress about missing tee times on turnover.

Highly recommend playing the reds for singles. Changing up what tees we were on and providing for some different angles and yardages was so much fun.

Would like to echo everyone above in praising the course, which was in incredible condition, and the staff, who couldn’t have been nicer. Also, shoutout to whoever kept re-upping the free beer situation.

Our group played the singles matches where the winner of the previous hole chose the next tee box, which was a blast.

Finally, all my playing partners/opponents were great, looking forward to teeing it up with everyone again. The alt shot match in particular with @CarlyRaeJepsenFan, @wreckhockey, and @MankindMcFly was a true back and forth affair punctuated by an incredible up and down on 9 to halve the match

I don’t know who started the free beer thing but I’ll be damned if thats not a new tradition im implementing at every event moving forward.

Also, shoutout to @ek365210 , being new, and a female, surrounded by guys with generic white guy names is never easy. And she fucking rocked it.

:raised_hand::wave: I’ll take the credit for starting that one when I bought my breakfast sandwich and only had card to pay

Kyle the fill in here. Had a blast meeting and playing with you all yesterday. Didn’t know a single person (other than my guy Joe) but you all made for the most fun golf day of my year so far. Everyone I played with was first class. Thanks for being a welcoming crew!

Thank you for the kind words!! I had such a great time. I was so nervous that my golf skills or the lack there of would bring down rounds. But that was not the case!

@MoTownJag was a great cartner for best ball. He was super encouraging and kept up the positive vibes. @Tigerific90 & Toby were great opponents!

Alt shot with @Conley76 @propajondhi and @jgolf1 went so fast but was so fun!

Scramble was a vibe. I was honored to share a cart with @CarlyRaeJepsenFan. His playlist created immaculate vibes. Got to reunite with @wreckhockey and meet @GooseTrego

Finally singles match was also such a good time. We kept the vibes going in the cart with @CarlyRaeJepsenFan & got to watch the demise of @spicychimis in real time. @Racole212 was a great opponent as well!

Serious shouts to @Conley76 for organizing this event and herding all the crazy cats of the OATW and the Flock. Napoleon was such a great venue and to can’t wait to return. We should definitely get the home run derby going next year and or water slide races. I was so nervous coming into this event and I’m so glad I decided to attend!

even days later I cannot stop thinking about the course. I really hope we go back in 2026.

This idea is stuck in my brain right now and I need to get it out/on paper somewhere so that I can move forward with my life, but how absolutely sick would #4 be if they could expand the fairway area to the right of that little creek that cuts in to create a peninsula fairway for those sickos who want to generate a chance at going for the green in two? Would require some tree removal and obviously turf grass management that likely makes this unfeasible. But imagine leaving the big trees at the end of the creek there as the focal point/new middle of the fairway and then having this choice to make off the tee?

Thanks everyone for being so welcoming! This was my first time playing team golf and it was an absolute blast. Thanks to @Conley76 for organizing- hope to see everyone at other events down the line.

Yup…missed out on the spoils of victory as I had a long ride home and needed to hustle onto the highway. Congrats to my fellow OATW teammates for a job well done!

Will need to figure out a way to get my prize(s).

Definitely wanted to echo the kudos to @Nap9super as well as the rest of the NGC staff…you all are doing amazing things both on and off the golf course and your hospitality and preparation was second to none!

Tom - thanks for all the diabolical pin placements and double-rolling of the greens for the second set of loop(s) around the course, everyone seemed to relish the challenge! On my drive back to Cleveland I listened to your interview with Garrett Morrison on the Fried Egg podcast, was great to get your backstory and also hear you passion for Napoleon and your thoughts on where to take the course next. Very much looking forward to our next outing to see all the fantastic work and how it is progressing. For those interested, I’m posting a picture of the Master Plan that was perched inside the clubhouse.

And finally to @Conley76 - cannot thank you enough for all the cat herding and logistics gyrations you put yourself through to make the incredible event a reality. I heard nothing but praise and kudos from everyone who participated (me included) in this memorable outing and you are most certainly the person who deserves all the credit. Was so great to catch up with old friends and to make new ones throughout the day. This is truly a crazy (in a good way!) bunch of guys and gals and I’d have it no other way.

Looks like they plan on cutting down that overhanging tree on 8. It’s a fun obstacle, but that’s probably for the best. A little green expansion is a welcome development too, those things were tiny!

Yeah I’m pretty much just going to say ditto on every comment, this past Saturday was some of the most fun I’ve had playing a really meaningful meaningless competition. @Conley76 did a bang up job keeping everything organized, and the already pipped scoresheets made keeping up to date in matches super simple. Massive shoutout as well to @Nap9super and the rest of the staff. I truly felt that everyone was thrilled to have us there and cared about our experience throughout the whole day. Before I had hit a shot on Saturday I predicted that after 4 loops I would probably be angry that the course was 2.5 hour away, and that absolutely came to fruition.
And to our Flock friends and opponents, where will you be hanging the countdown clock?

I’m mad as hell that it’s 52 minutes away…

Same boat. Wife agrees if it was 30 minutes we would be members there in a heart beat.

After taking some time to decompress, I want to thank all of you for the kind words; for making the not-easy trek out to napoleon for some low stakes competition; for being good representatives of what the refuge is supposed to be about; and for just being an incredibly awesome group of people to spend a day with.

If I can be a little sappy for a minute, a lot of you know this hasn’t been a particularly great or easy year for me or for my wife. Life has dealt us some shitty hands this year. On top of all that, completely losing what little golf game I had has just been a real kick in the nethers. The phrase ā€œfills the tankā€ gets tossed around a lot in our community, but I don’t know how better to say it. Some of you I just got to meet for the first time, and some of you I’ve golfed across 3 or 4 states with in the last 3 months, but the time I’ve gotten to spend with all of you has made getting through the tough times a hell of a lot easier. So a very deeply sincere thank you to every single one of you for being cool making all the time, effort, and money that goes into planning or just participating in these events, not just worth it, but one of the few things I’ll always look forward to doing.

Happy to report the membership (tonight was a league night) is absolutely tickled that a bunch of strangers would come to our course and have an absolute blast. I’ve answered questions from at least 20 people. Also happy to report I overcame 9 pops tonight.
