Due to some things outside of my control, I will be in the Dells for a bit - any recommendations on courses to play? Best Value, experience, etc?
Wild Rock is decent. I mostly hate Trappers Turn.
Wild Rock is the better course of the area.
Trappers Turn for a more of a value round.
I played Chula Vista once, I remember half the course being miserable and a terrible design. But the holes that were open had some interest in them. Super hammered and ended up at Wisconsin Dolls down the street. You get more for your dollar there than Chubbyās.
Played Trappers and Baraboo CC last year. I enjoyed Baraboo more if youāre willing to drive south a bit. But then you donāt get to play an Andy North design. Such decisionsā¦
Im heading down to play Wild Rock on Sunday, tentatively, if anyone wants to join.
So I had to scratch Eagle Springs from my trip because they donāt have tee times that morning. Would you rather do Barnās Hollow or Country Club Estates to pair with Hawkās View? Iāve done Barnās Hollow already and didnāt love it, but it would be fine I guess.
country club estates isnāt very close to hawks view. probably 20 minutes at least.
itās the better golf course. quirky, old school, tons of land movement. some ridiculously tiny greens that are amusing if not annoying.
i think itād be the one to pick vs. barns hallow which is just your run of the mill par 3.
factoring in convenience though, itās a closer call.
I am with you on this take. Wild Rock has nice conditioning with exciting holes. Trappers Turn (played this weekend) has so many holes that feel like repeat. My second complaint is Trappers is āsloppyā on the edges. Fairways and greens are nice but piles of dirt sit everywhere, overgrown areas, etc.
Thirdly, their 18-hole putting course and par 3 course are still under construction and look terrible. The putting course is in really rough shape even after a winter/spring with optimal growing conditions. The par 3 course is supposed to open in 4 weeks but is in complete disarray. Iād be embarrassed as the superintendent.
In short, Iām āoutā on Trappers Turn.
Played the Arbor nine at Trappers last week, which was my first visit to the property. Color me very unimpressed overall. I can see the draw for outings since the clubhouse/event space looks decent for receptions, but Iāll second everything in Derekās post. Customer service was poor, and caught some unprovoked attitude from someone on the grounds staff.
Iāll have to play there again for work outings, but wouldnāt under my own volition or dime.
Has anyone ever tried putting at Erin Hills putting course without a tee time?
Couple of Chicago refugees playing Lac La Belle Saturday at 10:48 if anyone is interested.
Never tried, because itās a 75 minute drive for me to get there, but as long as you get past the guy at the hut after you turn onto property, I canāt see how anyone would be able to tell you apart from someone who has already played or will be playing.
Cool. We were only able to get a tee time at 3:50pm at Wash County so we have some time to burn to start our trip and itās really close.
I ended up scratching Hawkās View altogether after looking at a map and I replaced it with University Ridge, which would be new for me. So the full trip is:
Day 1: Washington County, with an attempt to sneak on Erin Hills putting course beforehand
Day 2: Lawsonia links
Day 3: University Ridge
URidge is in excellent shape after the AmFam. Which shouldnāt be a surprise at all.
Looking for a couple guis to fill out a Sunday round at Spring Valley this weekend.
Between 6 and 7 AM is the plan.
Damn, a bit too early and far for me, unfortunately.
If anyone is up here in central WI, Iām playing Wild Ridge in Eau Claire on Saturday, 1PM, if anyone is interested.
Hey everyone, going to a wedding in Milwaukee and staying a little south of there in Franklin I think? Any opinions on grant park or the little par 3 course (warnimont) on Lake Michigan? There any views of the lake on those?
Shoop Park in Wind Point.
Lighthouse is a bonus.
