Yeah, probably won’t play in Milwaukee, so no worries about recommendations there, (unless Milwaukee CC is a possibility somehow, then I’m IN). Think my dad just wants to split up the drive a bit and play somewhere on the way.
Has Lac la Belle grown in completely yet? Worth the $150 price tag?
I was there a couple weeks ago and it’s not grown in yet. Still pretty sparse in a lot of areas.
What a cool course though. Even with those conditions I think it’s one of my favorites already. So many interesting shots to hit.
And the greens are next level crazy
Not ever going to be worth $150, in my opinion.
Why is that?
$150 is pushing it. $120 is a comfy high number for LLB.
I thought $75 was fair for LLB…no way I’ll pay $150. Maybe at $100 I would play it once a year.
There’s a lot of good golf in the area and a course like LLB just doesn’t fit the $150 price range for me and a ton of people I’ve talked to.
There’s a few holes that are basically at or below lake level and will forever be softer, even living 40 minutes away, I would rather make the hour 15 drive to lawsonia for the all day play for that price, and it’s feeling like they are going to just raise the price every year until they find a spot that people stop coming so much.
It’s not all the way grown in, so to charge $150 is fine, but it better be able to make up for it in other ways, which currently isn’t happening, at least not in my mind.
Wow, yeah. I thought LLB was mostly really cool but woof, $150 is rather presumptuous, especially upon hearing that some of that stuff still isn’t grown in. Wish it would sit somewhere in a middle-ish range of like…$80 and let itself build the hype up more organically. Oh well!
Reserved a time at Wild Rock. Looks solid and my dad is a sucker for elevated tee boxes.
perhaps the only blind elevated tee shot
Wow. I didn’t realize they jacked the rates this year until it was mentioned. I agree that there is no way it’s a $150 course. The $75-85 range seems appropriate. Crazy business model. Their goal is to capitalize on traveling golfers coming for Erin and the rest, charge member fees equivalent of the most expensive private clubs in the region but never go private. This didn’t work for the Bull. Wonder how it’s going to work for them.
“The gang buys a golf course” seems appropriate here.
I was having this discussion last year with some of senior management of our companies. I think LLB is making a play towards corporate membership and entertainment.
It’s setup is perfect for business development. Easy course to play, not overly demanding. Wild, fun greens that will keep you talking about them. Service is top-notch, food is quality and facilities are gorgeous.
Take a couple customers from Northern Illinois, Madison, Milwaukee, Fox River Valley for a 10am tee time. Lunch at the turn. Putting green drinks and then a solid early dinner. It’s the complete package for just this type of play.
At least it’s a better course than the Bull, and in a better location. But I think they’re going to struggle with their business model. They need to be in the 75-85 range for public play and their memberships are stupid.
Yeah, there was discussion about adding a hotel or lodge. Tough to see that happening in that area. There is talk about the F&B ops being awful this past weekend with locals. Is it possible it succeeds? Sure, and I hope they do. However, @midwestgolfbum comment about “the gang buys a golf course” seems appropriate.
i always thought it was caught between release patterns with its investment in some aspects of the operations – specifically the golf carts and the putting course. the putting course sorta strikes me as odd if there aren’t overnight guests? it is super fun though. and the carts are some of the nicest i’ve ever seen… which is fine i guess but probably plays into that higher green fee. gotta pay for them somehow.
i’d say the cost being what it is means a guy like me will play it once every 3-5 years vs. every year.
that being said, i’d probably tack it on to an EH trip either way.
Never played it and looks very nice but $125 green fees, plus $25 for cars seems like a bit much. Agree with you @TeddyPargame seems like a course I’d play every couple of years.
I’d rather to the all-day play pass at Lawsonia for $125.
The other thing that doesn’t bode well for LLB…I played there 4 times last year, always on Saturday or Sunday, and the tee sheet was never close to full even at $75. Early in the summer conditions weren’t great but it was fine later on. I remember being shocked at literally every tee time after 1:00 being available on a Saturday afternoon when all other courses were packed.
