Sorry if this isn’t the place but was looking for threads on this and couldn’t find any. My club in St. Louis is putting together a trip to Wisconsin with the following itinerary
Basically just want to know if it it’s worth around the $2500 it will cost or not.
For my Wisconsin bonafides, I love a brandy old fashioned sweet, my mom is a badger alum and grew up in Appleton. Kopp’s has the best frozen custard I’ve ever had. And I prefer woodmans over festival.
Where are you staying? Depending on where you’re staying at Kohler will determine if it’s really a great “value” or not. Their quoted rates for that time of year are higher than your $2003 plus tax as well and are all based on double occupancy, which is why I ask as well.
You’re also probably in for more than $2500 by the time you eat, travel to and from, tip caddies, and buy any merch you want.
To this question, maybe? I definitely wouldn’t do it for the “value” that’s for sure… but it would probably be a great trip with your club.
If you wanna spend $2500 you could do a way better golf trip elsewhere in Wisco (or MI, NC, OR) that’s for sure (imo).
Throwing in the top golf and spa discount stuff seems like they are grasping at providing a fair market price over what you are paying to show “value”.
My immediate golf friends are nowhere near serious enough to go on a trip above $100 so I guess I should be asking is this fun and am I getting gouged. So far the answer seems like fun and not crazy priced
I don’t think so. I believe their “dye-abolical” package is boxed up, promoted, and sold lots to groups so I’d imagine it’s priced pretty fairly or else they’d get killed for it. Just my opinion.
American club starts at $2081 per person for double occupancy, so assuming that’s what you’re getting, it’s not huge savings.
Inn on wood lake ranges from $1889 to $2125 depending on what kind of accommodations you’re getting, again for double occupancy so differing levels of value there.
For the money, I would rather do other places in Wisconsin as @TeddyPargame mentioned but don’t think you’re getting ripped off. The level of “fun” you’ll have is very much something you would need to figure out.
I know I have a hell of a lot more fun at somewhere like Sand Valley just based on what all is offered and the overall feel of the place. That’s different for everybody, for sure.
Heading to the great state of Wisconsin for a wedding in June at Over The Vines in Edgerton. Any recommendations of courses nearby that I can play in the morning? Looks like Lawsonia is about 1hr 1/2 away which is probably farther than I would like to travel day of.
Courses that came up on my quick search are Koshkonong Mounds, Coachman’s Golf Resort, and Lake Ripley. Anyone have any thoughts on these?
Doesn’t need to be an expensive track. Always down for a solid Strapped course with an interesting layout.
Janesville Riverside Muni
-it’s in awesome shape right now. Not gonna beat you up. Some meh holes, but some intriguing holes. A muni in the truest sense. Always buzzing and a couple blocks from downtown Janesville.
Glen Erin
Psuedo links course, but it’s interesting and quirky. Definitely contrived, but it’s right next to a small airport and it’s on some good rolling terrain. You won’t get a sense of the area as it’s pretty far away from anything, but it’s semi memorable if that’s what you’re looking for.
Can’t speak on any of the other courses in that area. University ridge is north of where you’re at if you’re looking for a better course (university of Wisconsin-Madison’s track)
Koshkonog Mounds is pretty cool, and Prairie Woods is a fun little track if you’re short on time and looking for something close. Low key courses, but fun and at a good price point
I play Janesville Riverside and Glen Erin a lot and @YakDaddy couldn’t be more spot on. Can’t go wrong with either.
Koshkonong Mounds is kind of a weird course. There’s about 9 straightforward holes and then 9 holes that if you don’t know exactly your layup/carry distance you could lose a ball on a perfect shot.
However, Tiziani disputed the $25 million construction budget cited in the permit application materials
“There’s no way it can be $25 million,” he said. “That’s not true.”
An economic impact analysis conducted by the National Golf Foundation says Cherokee lost more than half its members between 2007 and 2019, and membership has fallen to less than 40% of the threshold for economic stability.
I would imagine that a lot of those trees would go with the project and you’d end up with a lot of “natural” area similar to the front at URidge.
A lot of those current Cherokee members are going to get priced out when/if this is all said and done. It’s a blue collar place now and will definitely NOT be one when this is over. For myself, I only play there in tournaments that I HAVE to play in so having it be nicer will be a welcome change.
Attending a wedding in Milwaukee this summer, so my pops and I are looking to play somewhere on the way there from the Twin Cities. Pass through Wisconsin Dells, Madison, and whatever is on 94 from Madison to Milwaukee. Any recommendations? Can’t do Erin Hills. Was looking at Wild Rock, Trappers Turn, University Ridge, Lac La Belle, and if we aren’t feeling 18 maybe checking out Eagle Springs. Any preferences?
@DWise will probably join you for a round at The Oaks!
By that I mean, do NOT play that hell hole. You’ll have fun with Wild Rock, might be able to talk @chrisisoutrunning to show you around URidge, LLB is a great choice, but once you’re in Milwaukee, you have a ton of public options in the area. I’m sure others will be able to toss out much better options that I can in the Milwaukee area.
