Roll Call: Wisconsin - Madison vs Milwaukee

After all of that time in Arizona, you could spare this one day to open your heart to The Oaks?

But you could be a drunk sitting duck!

Stumbled upon this on Craigslist today. Someone in here needs to be the next owner of this beauty.

Are they selling the bag or the rear body piece of a golf cart?

Just the cart it looks like

That’s kind of brilliant, in a very rural Wisconsin kind of way.

If anyone is looking to get out in the Madison area next Thursday (4/22), @DylanB and I will be matching up at University Ridge at 12:24. If anyone wants to join and watch me get waxed, you’re more than welcome. (Two spots available)

Alright team, my new home for the next two and a half months is Wisconsin. I’m a PM in the solar industry and my projects in this portfolio are located in Rice Lake, Barron, and Spooner. I’m taking my camper up and staying right on Rice Lake to start, but I’m not tied to any specific location and enjoy exploring. I’ve done some general scanning throughout the threads and via google maps, but I’d like some input on courses and potential good spots to check out. Would also love to meet up and play with some of the WI/MN contingent if anyone is relatively in the area. Thanks!

Plugging the TGJ event at Lac La Belle this summer. Should be an awesome day and would be a great way to experience Lac La Belle for the first time if you haven’t already.

I’ll be in the Hayward area the week before Memorial Day if you are around. Pretty sure I can make time for a game. As for courses in the area, I’ve heard good things about Spooner Golf Club but haven’t played. In the Hayward/Cable area I’ve enjoyed Big Fish and Lakewoods a lot. Telemark is fine, assuming it’s open. I know @Battisstatus rides for Cumberland GC as well. Too bad your project had to start in April as opposed to June, summer in the Northwoods is the best.

@chipcaffey the next time I am up in the area I will let you know. Cumberland isn’t too far from Rice Lake and would be happy to have you out to kick my butt at my home away from home course.

Also might want to check out Turtle Back. I haven’t played it personally but have heard nothing but great things.

Voyager Village is in Danbury, quirky but fun course. Always well maintained. Known for the signature airplane runway landings and take offs near the first tee

I have also hear good things about Spooner Golf Club but never played. Only played Turtleback once but solid track. You are about an hour away from Eau Claire where Wild Ridge is a good public course and Eau Claire Golf & Country club is great 100 year old private club. If you expand your radius to 2 hours you could hit up east Metro in the Twin Cities/Western Wisconsin. Stoneridge, Troy Burne, White Eagle, New Richmond are good options. To the north you are also in range of Northland Country Club where myself and some others on the Refuge are National Members. If you want to venture to any of those I would post on the MN contingent and wouldn’t be too hard to organize something to Duluth and member guest rate at Stoneridge is much better than public rate.

In as well!

Minnesota golfer that is taking a trip down to Lake Geneva this summer. A couple of us are going out for a round, which course would you recommend if we only have one round in the area?

We are all 10-20 handicaps and love a course without too many houses on it.

I think Hawks View is a really solid value and you aren’t gonna get houses on it. That would be my recommendation. It’s vacation golf but you can score out there.

Geneva National is ā€œnicerā€ but also quite a bit more expensive.

I haven’t played Grand Geneva, but I’ve heard good things. This is also more expensive than HV.

Abbey Springs is OK, too. It’s hilly but lots of trees.

Majestic Oaks at Lake Lawn Resort on Lake Delevan is a value pick as well. It’s an easy walk.

Spring Valley isn’t really ā€œLake Genevaā€ golf but it’s a Langford Moreau that you can walk for $25 or so (I think less). 45 minutes away, a bit less if you are on east side of lake. It’s great.

Eagle Springs is a 9-hole gem that I couldn’t recommend more. 25 minute drive from the north side of LG. If you want quirky and original this is your spot.

Finally, you’re just over an hour to Erin Hills and Club and Lac Labelle as well.

Echoing Hawks View as the best value in Lake Geneva. It’s scenic, a little quirky, but always in great shape. There’s also a good par 3 course there if your group wants to get a little buzzed and play for fun. I also like the player course at Geneva National, but it is more expensive and I’m not sure the value compared to hawks view. If you’re looking for more of a high class experience, Geneva National feels a tad bit more luxurious. I was pretty unimpressed with both the brute and highlands at Grand Geneva, and I would be curious to hear what others have to think about those courses. I played like shit, so maybe I just had a case of the pouts and I wasn’t being objective.
