In the same way Miller products are good, agree.
The love for Spotted Cow always confused me because it isnāt even close to the best beer they offer.
Itās above average and has a leaping cow on the bottle/canā¦whats not to like?
Iāve always been confused by the Spotted Cow hate! Maybe its just a case of forced scarcity for those darn FIBs?
I have the same feeling towards Culvers and maybe its the same for Spotted Cow haters in Wisco. Went to college in Green Bay, ate Culvers probably every other week for 4 years (yes I gained weight)ā¦now I donāt ever want Culvers. But the root beer hits sometimes.
The hate for it comes from itās style. Back in the day, the style was key in how it moved people from macro adjunct lagers to a craft beer. It was approachable enough that people who only drank Bud, Coors, or Miller fell in love with it. And since that is a largest base of beer drinkers in the country, it became wildly popular.
But cream ales arenāt a particularly interesting style of beer. So now that people have a lot more knowledge of craft beer, many think the beer is pretty meh. But I will die on the hill that it is THE singular best example of the cream ale style. Every other brewery that tries to make a cream ale is simply trying to make a Cow clone and they usually fail. Just because a style is meh doesnāt mean you canāt make a great example of that style.
Iām all for Spotted Cow BUTā¦
More like how Anchor Steam is good or Guinness is good.
Thatās right, I forgot about your weird cream ale angle to this debate.
Yes itās good but every other beer NG makes is better. They donāt make a bad beer but spotted cow is their worst beer.
Their splash malt series is genuinely terrible.
GREAT place! What made it an experience? Jazzercise on the TV while death metal is playing? Or was it old school wrestling with 80ās post-punk playing?
Mainly the first hahaā¦
The bartender was a trip, the people, the place, the decor⦠all of it. Glad I made the visit.
Vangaurd is in the Bayview Neighborhood and as our fearless captain, @mikedabomb, likes to point out, its where all the hipsters live. The food is great, usually have a decent beer selection, and the bourbon/whisky selection is fantastic
.
I like Bayview as well, but I also like getting away form the hipsters after I have my food and drinks, just like Mike
Most of us are nice people! Just avoid the ones that think theyāre too cool for school.

Listen, I am a failed engineer who went into sales. What about my back ground suggests that I would know how to spell!
Directions unclear, will ignore.
Also what @Badger_Wisco said.
Iād echo the thoughts on driving it. Iāve done it countless times and youād be able to break it up with great golf.
Can you play 36 in a day at Lawsonia in the fall? Yes, but you might be battling some sunlight depending on your definition of āFall.ā Obviously The Links is an incredible track, but everyone I play with (and I agree) really enjoys Woodlands as well.
Assuming the flights are in and out of Milwaukee, Iād play (from quality to ultra-quality scale) Dretzka, Washington County or Erin Hills if youāre looking to break up a fairly short drive. If you have some private club pull, Iād recommend trying to get out on West Bend CC or North Hills CC in between Milwaukee and Lawsonia. North Hills might be under a touch of construction starting this year though. Most importantly DO NOT speed going throw Rosendale. IYKYK. Next most importantly, hope you make the trip and enjoy yourselves!
Was not expecting a Rosendale shoutout on the Refuge today. I go through there a few times a month for work (used to be more when I lived in Ripon) and I never pay closer attention to my speedometer than I do for those couple miles.
I see what you did there and all though I donāt like it, I respect it.
