Well we didn’t do it all, but we did a lot. Really appreciate the advice!
Gonna be in Milwaukee next Saturday night for the first time. What are some good places for dinner Saturday night and brunch/lunch on Sunday before heading to Erin Hills?
You have a budget in mind or places you are already staying? Also, what time are you teeing off on Sunday? @SupperClub can help narrow things down from there for sure.
Dinner: Good Kind (Rotating menu and great cocktails), Morel (Rotating menu with local ingredients), Sorella (Italian - Pasta/ Brick Oven Pizza), Dan Dan (Modern Chinese), La Dama (Great Authentic Mexican), La Merenda (Tapas).
Brunch: Honeypie, Engine Company #3, Uncle Wolfie’s
Just gonna find a solid Hampton or Fairfield Inn somewhere near the airport Saturday night. We tee off at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon at EH. Staying on property Sunday night then driving to SV on Monday where we’ll be until Thursday. My buddies are cheap but I’ll be by myself Saturday night so I’d like to get a decent meal that evening.
Go to Real Chili.
Closed, I believe. SAD.
Gang, have a bus of 12 guys leaving from Sand Valley on Monday 7/8 headed to Manitowoc to catch the SS Badger to MI.
Is there a fun lunch spot on Lake Winnebago/Appleton area or should we just get to Manitowoc and find a resto/brewery prior to the ferry?
If you want to be on the lake, Waverly Beach Bar and Grill is good. Regular sports bar food, has some games and stuff outside. Downtown Appleton has plenty of places. Home Burger Bar is my favorite for something not fancy. Pullmans is a little nicer and right on the river if you want to sit outside. Parker Johns in Menasha is good and you can walk over to the river and locks.
Fine WI Folk - I am located in the Twin Cities & we have a family cabin in Rhinelander that I have made endless trips to the last 30+ years. We play golf around Rhinelander, but I always wonder if some of the spots we drive by on the ride home (Pine Valley - Marathon City, Whispering Pines - Cadott, Wild Ridge, Princeton Valley, Whitetail - Eau Claire) or anything off of Highway 8 would be fun to stop by & play?
WIld Ridge in Eau Claire is awesome! Highly recommend it. I played Pine Valley A LOT when I lived in the area, its good, especially for the price. Holes 17 & 18 are very polarizing, from my experience. You either like em or hate them… I like 'em.
Whispering Pines is okay. Princeton Valley is only 9 (IIRC) and its okay as well. Never played Whitetail.
Don’t sleep on Troy Burne, if you haven’t played it. I hear its great! Just south of I-94 after crossing into WI.
Inshalla CC in Tomahawk is also a decent track. I believe you drive right by it as well.
And, if ANYONE ever says you should drive and play Marshfield CC, just turn around, walk away and never trust their advice on anything else ever again, that place STINKS!
This is exactly what I was looking for - appreciated! I have done Troy Burne a bunch from the Twin Cities, so was trying to branch out.
Wild Ridge definitely caught my eye the most in the little research I did. But great to hear about Pine Valley, drive right by it & always wanted to stop in!
Wild Ridge is probably the best public course in that EC-Wausau-SP triangle. I mean, Sentryworld is probably the right answer but taking into account price, sign me up for WR. Just make sure not to walk it, it’s a brutal walk, especially if it’s hot.
If you do go to PV, LMK what you think. Again, besides having an amazing name, it’s nothing more than a solid public track. Some dumb holes, some fun holes, all making for a proper comfy round of golf.
Hahaha I love that description of PV & now will for sure be checking it out soon. I am very much not a course snob & love to just check out new spots, so it will make the list!
Hey shoutout Whispering Pines! Thats where I worked in high school, its a good country course.
Folks! Cannot tell you how excited I am to join this group. Just moved back to the Dairyland last July. Been playing all over the country for the past 8 years and would love to get in on the action and mainly the Supper Club. Any advise how to get in on some track days with the regional crew let me know. Some pictures of some fun WI times.
I’d second Wild Ridge as a very good course for the price. Just make sure Wild Ridge and not Mill Run because they are two very different courses. I’ve never played Lake Wissota but heard a lot of good things about it. Eau Claire Country club is great if you can get on it. Always loved the course but it’s gotten even better with more tree removal/brand new bunkering in the last few years.
Welcome, very glad to have you! @mikedabomb is our Roost captain, Mike not sure if you’d be able to help here?
DM incoming.
