Was just informed ill be attending a wedding in Fond du Loc in September.
Assuming i can build in an extra day to get a round in - where would you go for first time exposure to Wisco golf?
My (non refuge) offline buddies are split perfectly in 3 between SV / Erin Hills and Whistling as an introductory (and or bucket list) course decision.
Recognizing tee times are being released / booked (if they arent already blocked out) - where would you head?
Iām biased but Iād say Erin based on the vibe Iām getting from you guys. Close proximity, immaculate conditions (we host the USWO next year) and should be cheaper than the other two. Or comparable to SV.
But also, Lawsonia is right down the road from FDL. The Links course is phenomenal and the lightest on the wallet.
Sand is phenomenal, but I imagine you wonāt have enough light to play 36 because you will leave feeling shorted if you only play one course.
Whistling is the Pebble Beach of the Midwest. Everyone wants to play it, has all the pub (for good reason), but man they charge you like Pebble. Straits course would be the only way to go there.
As the self-appointed Lawsonia Woodlands defender for the Supper Club Iād say if you have one day why limit it to 18 holes? Play both Lawsonia Links and Woodlands and it will still costs less than 18 at any of the other choices. Also really easy drive and you can stop in Ripon on the way back for a pizza and beer from Knuth Brewery.
Event season is Wisconsin is officially upon us (s/o @PTM and the Burban). Iāll make a specific push for our major event this season, The Brandy Old Fashioned at Washington County Golf Course, June 15, $100.
As of right now we are accepting sign ups for those that are on board with qualifying for a roost regional spot. We also have an NIT spot for this event and weāre still working on how to award that.
Sign up will be open through April for those that want to qualify for regionals. If thatās not you, throw yourself on the waitlist and Iāll move everyone off on May 1.
Sneak preview, we will be changing the regional qualification process next year to a season long points situation a la what a handful of other roosts are doing.
Good news, you just have to sign up for events on it (and join our ācommunityā), no communication beyond that from UKG. We* will add you to tee times, somebody in the group will be asked to enter scores, and post round shenanigans can happen faster and make the event organizer less stressed as this also prints scorecards for us complete with dots.
Im leaning Erin - it looks like tee times are going fast - desperately needing more concrete timelines from the Groom asap so i can firm up travel and dates.
