$2 Can of Hamms.
Looking forward to the round Thursday!
Played a really fun round with @RosesTintedGlasses @DWise and @chrisisoutrunning tonight at the Glen Golf Park.
Can NOT recommend these guise and The Glen more. If you find yourself in the Madison area, absolutely get out there. As has been said, it needs a little time to mature, but its obvious that it has all the right parts to be great.
@DWise and @chrisisoutrunning stuck around for another beer and some time on the putting green. Also a solid time!
Really fun golf course, holes are framed nicely - made the most of the routing. Perfect for an evening 9 holes and a post-round cold beer.
Always fun hanging with @chrisisoutrunning and @midwestgolfbum - and meeting @RosesTintedGlasses
And our bags went 4 for 4 with YOTB entries.
I was chatting with a non golfer co-worker today and he mentioned stopping by to have dinner at SentryWorld on the way home from a weekend at the cabin. Now I’m intrigued to make a trip up. Anyone have some experience with it? Is it worth the 2 hour drive and $275?
I work at Sentry and we get a “discount” of $100 and I still haven’t even considered playing it at that price. We can do twilight golf for $35 but there are leagues every weekday except Monday’s, when the course is closed. They’re clearly trying to position themselves as an elite parkland course which I guess they are but I’d rather go walk Sand Valley for a similar price. SW pampers you with free food and drink, GPS electric carts, upscale bar food at PJ’s, and a manicured course and some people love that. It helps that Sentry has like an $8B (yep, billion) surplus so the course is just another marketing expense and tax vehicle for them.
Yeah when I saw the price my first thought is that I might as well play Sand Valley. Thanks for the info!
Have some out of staters doing a WI trip with a very strange itinerary. The Bull is on the list and I’ve never heard anything great about that place, but I don’t have any specific reasons to pass on. Anyone have any intel on The Bull?
It is difficult in all the wrong ways. I would rather play almost anywhere else.
I loved it when I played ~2 years ago. A ton of variation from hole to hole. It helped that I golfed well that day so that may have been part of it but I thought the course was in great shape, many holes asked for specific shots with a fair error margin, and the price was a good value.
It’s just not to the same level as any of the other courses in the area. It was I initially designed to be an addition to Kohler, and priced accordingly, but it just doesn’t make me feel anything. There are a couple cool holes, but totally not worth playing on a trip. Also worth noting, if went under a few years ago and changed ownership.
Saw this today…
“SentryWorld general manager Mike James then noted at a preview event Thursday that the course will close in late September this year and will not reopen again to the public until after the U.S. Senior Open champion is crowned July 2, 2023.”
Starting to wonder if Sentry is the financial entity that could challenge LIV.
Played it this summer and I’ll be the guy that sticks up for it
Is it the greatest golf course in the world? Does it have the views and thought provoking firm and fast play Absolutely not, but once a summer would I enjoy wetting my beak with all the amenities? Absolutely
When courses especially in say Arizona include lunch or “all inclusive” the food usually sucks … not the case at all here, all the food, snacks, ice cream …. It’s easily worth close to 100 bucks for all the food, booze, snacks you can grab at multiple points. If you have that mindset and are going there to enjoy the perks, relaxed atmosphere it’s definetly worth it
For parkland golf the course is immaculate, greens roll ridiculous true and it has some very fun holes, tee times are in 20 minute increments so your truly on your own
As the nlu squad would say, do I want to play that kind of golf every day? No but I’m glad it exists
I just started typing up a rambling anti-SentryWorld post after seeing my first 2023 US Senior Open commercial… For everyone’s benefit, I deleted it and will try and sum up the ramble…
- You couldn’t pay me to make the two hour drive north to Stevens Point to watch that shit.
- The current setup of 18 + all inclusive is stupid. I would consider $275 to be worth it if it was all you can play/eat/drink, including within the clubhouse.
Mr. DJ lives here for less than a month and already has Milwaukee CC lined up. You truly have to respect it!
You say that like it’s hard to get on Milwaukee.
ducks
He’s obviously scouting for hosting his first MKE refuge meet up and I’m here for it.
There’s far better options than Milwaukee for that.
I’ll take your word for it! Never been on MCC, but from what I’ve heard I have little desire to try and make that happen.
Man, one or two days every summer I regret not being a member at a club and today was that day. Had family obligations until about 4 but can usually walk on some public course in the northshore. Totally shut out today.
