Roll Call: Western New York, 2025 Roost sign up

Located just outside Syracuse NY… couple great public courses that are currently sleeping but come spring time can really let you live #underpar

I’ll add my two cents as I think most of the golf in the area is underwhelming.

Public I’d play: Diamondhawk (best green complexes and architecture) and Hickory Stick although I have heard great things about Byrncliff

Muni: Sheridan is probably the best option

Private: If you’re a member somewhere can probably have your pro call Niagara Falls CC or any of the second tier (i.e. not CCB or Cragburn), not sure how it is to get on CCB I’ve only played once as a caddies guest on a Monday but its probably the best Private in Buffalo.

I live in Kenmore and belong to Cherry Hill but still play a ton locally if anyone is ever interested in a game.

@jasona93 Ivy Ridge absolutely does not allow walkers, I have been told I can either take a cart of walk to my car there so just keep that in mind if you don’t like taking carts. I hear Glen Oak is getting better under the new owner but always incredibly soft.

Haven’t played ccb or crag burn yet. Played wanakah, was pretty solid

I grew up next door to wanakah and was a caddy/bagroom punk, then closed the pro shop, and chased sunset playing every night. One of the best periods of my life.

I don’t mind the cart thing (ducks). That area gets some odd weather that rolls in fast and there’s several spots I wouldn’t want to be as a walker. I bet twilight they wouldn’t mind, but I haven’t tried.

I’ve also managed to get on with a full tee sheet offering to beat the starter there and being ready to go, and they allowed it.

Glen Oak under the new ownership has been wonderful. But yes, it’s generally the wettest.

Thanks all for the feedback!!

Byrncliff is great - weird, hilly, and a ton of fun, especially in the fall because there are some great views off the elevated tees. It’s not a purist’s golf course by any stretch.

Crag Burn is awesome if you get a chance to play it, my favorite course in the Buffalo area!

I like to walk but don’t hold it against anyone if they prefer to cart. I was just leaving that nugget for anyone else who may have the idea. To boot one day was cart path only and I wasn’t allowed to walk.

Cragburn is fun. Typically is really nice and crispy and fun to play. Some wonky holes but an enjoyable round, maybe not the most fun membership but they open up for NYSGA and BDGA events so thats good.

Circling back on a previous topic. As the winter is settling in (looks out window to 45* and rain) simulator golf is ramping up and I’ll be playing the SportZone scrmable on the 24th if anyone else will be there drop me a line and we can meet up.

I’d add The Links at Ivy Ridge… fun course and run by good people.

I come down to Erie to play Downing a couple of times in the summer. Love playing Lake View CC… also great views,of Lake Erie (I know, no duh). LPCC is nice also.

I’m in for the simulator at Paddock… lmk

I posted the same in the Roll Call: Canada group.

Just listened to January’s Nest podcast… any thoughts on a GTA/Niagara NIT? Would there be Nesters from WNY that would be interested in an event?

I’d be down for that. Keep me in the loop.

I’ll be there Friday for the scramble with a group of guys. Let me know if you get a team or want to team up at a later event.

Sure would! Southern Ontario has some gems but it gets pricey with the beverages. I can’t think of anything that would be a ‘rent the course meetup’ type deal, but a block of tee times shouldn’t be a problem anywhere. Just my two cents, Glen Oak has a nice patio and they’d probably accommodate an event

Sounds great - keep me posted!

Another Buffalo area which seems to be able to accommodate a group would be Diamondhawk, also helps that it might be (in my opinion is) the best public course in the Buffalo area.
