Roll Call: Washington DC/DMV Area

Vouching for the Golf Doctor. Went to see him to get a putter evaluation - fully expected a new flat stick recommendation - instead recommended change in grip (thicker SuperStroke) which did wonders.

I’ve done my fitting with Wade Heintzelman at Golf Care Center in Bethesda. He’s a mad genius. Not the pro shop looking type. He dresses like an out of work chemist. but he’s awesome.

Anybody available for 18 at UMD next Wednesday at 9:50a? Call it a celebration of the fact that the 2020 campaign will have finally, mercifully, (hopefully?) drawn to a close.

Played at Hidden Creek with Wade a few years ago. Awesome guy, and better players I know really like his work.

Moved here thinking I’d be here a couple years until my next port of call. That’s 15+ years ago.
Little Bennett is great (used to be used for Monday Qualifying back in the old Kemper Open days).
PB Dye is…interesting (really nice people at the course though).
Maryland National can be a beast.
Musket Ridge is really good.
Whiskey Creek is solid with one of the best closing holes in the region.
Worthington Manor is aces. Consistent top 10 you can play and worth it.
Rattlewood is a fun place to play that won’t beat you to submission. Always in good shape. Everything muni golf should be.
Haven’t been to Links @ Challendon in forever.
If you get on 70 and head east, Waverly Woods is Blue Mash’s sister course. Undulating track that is usually in good shape.

If anyone has not voted via mail (I moved too late to register for a mail in ballot), I had a very nice experience voting at Nats Park earlier today. Very quick.

Also, shoutout to the guys outside handing out chicken empanadas on your way out, that was tasty.

The greens are in brutal shape. The course is under new ownership, but I won’t play there until they are in much better shape.

Long time DC resident (Capitol Hill and Navy Yard) but just recently joined the Refuge after lurking for a while.

Usually game bailed on me so I have 3 spots available at 7:40 at EP on Saturday if anyone is interested. That’s the second group so we should be able to get around pretty quickly. Hit me up.

Last tuneup before heading to Chambers Bay, Pumpkin Ridge, and Bandon at the end of next week.

Can’t make this sat but would like to play ep at some point after always driving right by it

Enjoy chambers. Really is on of my favorite courses. Take advantage of the par 5’s and yo can have a good round.

@theD1 I shot you a DM but have a group of 3 looking for one more on Saturday morning. Lmk if you want to join forces!

Refuge buys a golf course?

Idk what LP’s rep is but I always thought it was a fine course. Good twilight rate. That par 5 (16?) with the green by the lake is a good hole

Unfortunately it struck me as Exhibit A in the ‘build a golf course to sell homes’ mid 70s - late 90s movement

Quite the indictment - shows as built in 08.

Never played it when I lived in DC area but have a few buddies that go out there since price is right

Last time (last fall) there was still a ton of development – big yikes

LP is a fun layout. But they have lost the conditions multiple times over the years. Haven’t been out there in probably 2 years but hope it doesn’t go away.

Haven’t played there in a while, but heard from a couple friends that played it last month that it was in rough shape.

Yeah three years ago or so it got crushed by a bad summer and took a while to get back to form. It was an ok course. Hopefully some company jumps on that, still a lot of potential there.

Not surprised with the crazy amounts of rain/heat we had this year

Very true, it wasn’t the only course in the area that took a beating this summer. Hopefully a good buyer snags this, it’s a good public option in the area if the conditions are maintained.

Rattlewood is really solid in my opinion. Always in good shape, fun to play, and walkable. Pace tends to be a little slow at peak times, but nothing catastrophic either.
