Just note - I’m flying in from TX on 12/31 - assume if its weather that prevents me from landing, then the golf will probably not be happening! If SWA implodes again - I’m sorry
Just popping into to say I got official word from work that my move to STL is a go. Will be moving into the area sometime this spring or maybe as late as June. 30, no kids (yet), not interested in fighting. Looking forward to teeing it up with some of you next year!
I’ve been “in this group” for a couple of years but have never really engaged (randomly played with Ryan S. a year or so ago at Landings while he was prepping for a trip to Bandon). I am hoping to play with the group a handful of times in 2024. I figured if I posted something maybe I’d be more accountable…
Afternoon St Louis area nest members. Google has been poor results so far, so I turn to you all to ask for recommendations or a lead to a resource for a good golf trip idea in that area for mid July ish.
Want to set something up for my brother in law before his wedding and so far everything is pushing us to the ozarks. That area looks incredible and maybe one day, but we were looking for a Thursday-Sunday type deal closer to St. Lois, Colombia or into Illinois.
Yo! No golf resorts or centralized complexes close to STL, you’re right that that would be Lake of the Ozarks or further.
Will you guys have transportation? Most public golf around STL will require driving.
A couple thoughts off the top of my head are:
-Annbriar (beautiful course, Hurdzan design, Waterloo, IL)
-Gateway (right across the river in IL, really fun links style, Keith Foster design)
-Forest Park (the public city course in Forest Park. Play Redbud 9 for sure, some fun old school holes like a Biarritz)
-Aberdeen (Eureka, MO, fun links style but gets VERY hot down in that valley)
-Spencer T Olin (Alton, IL, Arnold Palmer design that hosted a US Pub Links)
-Far Oaks (Caseyville, IL, Kye Goalby design that is really gettable and fun)
IMO big skips are Stonewolf and Pevely Farms. Bad bad target golf
Well I guess that answers why I can’t find any stay and plays close.
Appreciate this great write up. Gives me some work to do to try and mold it into a trip. We will have transportation so as long as have a centralized location to stay, we can drive to the courses.
Airbnb in a fun part of STL as a central hub + driving out to these courses would be a fun trip! You could center around Soulard or The Grove, have some good food and party vibes, then daily drivable golf!
Really the only stay and play I’d say is worth it is Big Cedar Lodge in Branson. But that’s a couple hours from STL and $$$. I haven’t been super impressed with the stuff around Lake of the Ozarks
Second staying in Soulard/The Grove and doing the courses mentioned. Could also have another option to stay in Waterloo and make a couple days of it with Annbriar, Acorns, and Mystic Oaks. They have plenty of bars, breweries and places to eat for a little more golf focused party. Also have the courses in Columbia IL nearby (Columbia Bridges, Columbia, Triple Lakes, River Lakes.)
